Congratulations! On the purchase of your CovicideTM Cabinet, UVC Sterilization
Cabinet.
We all see the pandemic unfolding in front of our eyes. Every single day brings us
hundreds of new cases, 80% of which (according to ICMR) are Asymptomatic. This
means every person you meet, you walk by, share a cab with, buy groceries from,
is potentially a carrier of the virus. Being asymptomatic doesn't stop the deadly
novel Coronavirus from spreading. It will latch on to you on the first chance it
gets. It is scarier than it may seem at first. In a scenario like this, we have to protect
ourselves from all possible directions, in all possible ways.
Covicide Cabinet can kill or deactivates bacteria, viruses and Coronavirus by
destroying nucleic acids and disrupting their DNA, leaving them unable to
perform vital cellular functions. UV (Ultraviolet) Light has been used for
disinfection of air and surfaces within hospitals, care homes, laboratories and
many other organizations for many years. Now we have brought the science
backed technology for your homes & offices.

CONSUMER AWARENESS
In these trying times, there are products in the market that give a fake sense of security to the
user. There are many UV-A lights being passed off as germicidal lamps. The term UV itself tends
to give users a sense of security and those who’re unaware about the difference between UV-
A and UV-C fall prey to such marketing. There are certain questions that the user should ask
before deciding on a UV based sterilizer.
What source of UV is being used?
The most commonly used is of 253.7nm wavelength, which is germicidal. This is a
very important question as this determine whether the UV generated can be used for
disinfection purposes or not. Also, it should not be in the UVV spectrum (or UV
Vacuum), which generates ozone that is harmful.

What is the true 360º sterilization Coverage?

Since the whole point in using UV light is to make use of its wavelength, one must
remember that wherever the blind spot occurs, the UVC light does not reach and so,
those areas remain untreated. As per available data, one single SARS-COV-2 virus is
65nm-125nm diameter. So, in a 1mm² surface area that’s untreated, there will be
8000-15000 active viruses that can very well spread the disease. Even the mesh that is
used to place the items casts a blind spot which can leave several millimetres
untreated. Also, not all surfaces reflect 100 per cent UV germicidal irradiation. Thus,
the right placement and quantity of UV light is a must to ensure that all surface
areas are covered in one disinfection cycle. We suggest in our user manual that users
flip the them to be disinfected and re-do the disinfection cycle to cover the bottom
area of the particular item.

How much UV dosage is being delivered?

This again is a very important question that a user must ask. Though in smaller UV
Sterilizers this is taken care, but due to shadow effect, all the surfaces do not get
enough dosage. To tackle this, a longer time of treatment is given so that required
dose (in J/cm2) is achieved.

What kind of safety mechanism is deployed?

The biggest drawback of UV is that it is very harmful for humans (and animals alike).
Short term problems include skin burns, blisters and skin peel off. If exposed So it
becomes extremely necessary to deploy safety switches in order to switch off the UV
source if the lid or door is opened. Many companies use Mechanical Switches, like
those we see in a refrigerator or a printer, which can easily be bypassed by manually
pressing it. (Who has not tried switching off refrigerator lights while keeping the
doors opened?) This has the potential to expose children, in particular, to harmful UV
light. COVICIDETM uses strategically placed Sensor Based safety cut off switch, which
cannot be bypassed.

7|Page
What is the actual usable capacity of a sterilisation box?
Some manufacturers do not explicitly mention the usable area and simply refer to
the product’s overall volume. This must be kept in mind while purchasing your
disinfection box as you may not be able to place your belongings the way you had
planned.

What is the timing mechanism followed?

We see products in the market with either no timer (you basically switch on the UVC
source and switch it off when you feel), or some kind of Adjustable Timer for which
the user has the liberty of setting which may result incomplete sterilization. Few
questions that may arise include, IS THE TIME ENOUGH? IS IT LESS? IS IT MORE? WHAT
PRODUCT TAKES HOW MUCH TIME? To answer these, Covicide Cabinet has deployed
preset timers after thorough calculation of UV dosage required to disinfect various
surfaces. As a result, the right dose (mJ/cm2) is given to various surfaces, which is
enough to deactivate even the most resilient of viruses, including the one causing
the current outbreak.

FAQ
What is Ultraviolet Light?

Ultraviolet (UV) light is one form of

electromagnetic energy produced naturally by
the sun. UV is a spectrum of light just below
the visible light and it is split into four distinct
spectral areas – Vacuum UV or UVV (100 to
200 nm), UVC (200 to 280 nm), UVB (280 to 315
nm) and UVA (315 to 400 nm).

What is Ultraviolet C and How does it work?

UVC energy is absorbed by nucleic acids inside the RNA and DNA, resulting in covalent bonds
which at the right dose can render the pathogen unable to reproduce and infect. The most
effective germicidal wavelength occurs with a peak of 253.7 nm, the point at which DNA
absorbs UV energy the most.
UVC energy is a commonly used sterilization technology that has been shown to inactivate a
wide range of pathogens (e.g. MRSA, C. diff, E. Coli and Pseudomonas).

UVC exposure inactivates microbial organisms such as bacteria and viruses by altering the
structure and the molecular bonds of their DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid). DNA is a “blue print”
these organisms use to develop, function and reproduce. By destroying the organism’s ability

9|Page
to reproduce, it becomes harmless since it cannot colonize. After UVC exposure, the organism
dies off leaving no offspring, and the population of the microorganism diminishes rapidly.
Ultraviolet germicidal lamps provide a much more powerful and concentrated effect of
ultraviolet energy than can be found naturally. Germicidal UV provides a highly effective
method of destroying microorganisms.

What is COVID-19?
Severe Acute Respirator Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-COV-2) is the newly discovered
coronavirus responsible for the 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). This new virus and
disease were unknown before the outbreak began in Wuhan, China, in December 2019.

How Does COVID-19 Spread?

According to the CDC, Coronaviruses are generally thought to spread from person-to-person
through respiratory droplets. It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a
surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly
their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.

What is the effective of UVC on Coronavirus?

UVC can be an effective measure for decontaminating surfaces that may be contaminated by
the SARS-CoV-2 virus by inducing photo dimers in the genomes of microorganisms. Ultraviolet
light has been demonstrated to be capable of destroying viruses, bacteria and fungi in
hundreds of laboratory studies (Kowalski 2009). The SARS-CoV-2 virus has not yet been
specifically tested for its ultraviolet susceptibility but many other tests on related
coronaviruses, including the SARS coronavirus, have concluded that they are highly susceptible
to ultraviolet inactivation. This report reviews these studies and provides an estimate of the
ultraviolet susceptibility.

It is estimated that the SARS-CoV-2 virus can survive on surfaces for up to 9 days, based on its
similarity to SARS and MERS. Standard disinfectants are effective against SARS-CoV-2 but as an
extra level of protection, and to shield against errors in the manual disinfection process,
ultraviolet light can be used to disinfect surfaces and equipment after the manual chemical
disinfection process is completed. ASHRAE recommends ultraviolet germicidal irradiation as
one strategy to address COVID-19 disease transmission (ASHRAE 2020).

Why Do I need COVICIDE TM CABINET?
We all see the pandemic unfolding in front of our eyes. Every single day brings us hundreds of
new cases, 80% of which (according to ICMR) are Asymptomatic. Meaning, they DO NOT display
symptoms. This means every person you meet, you walk by, share a cab with, buy groceries
from, is potentially a carrier of the virus. This statement may seem a bit paranoid and over-
reaction to a situation, but in a situation like this, over-reaction is the only right reaction. Being
asymptomatic doesn't stop the deadly novel Coronavirus from spreading. It will latch on to you
on the first chance it gets. It is scarier than it may seem at first. In a scenario like this, we have
to protect ourselves from all possible directions, in all possible ways. Covicide Cabinet will
ensure that the virus doesn't enter your personal space. Covicide Cabinet can get your objects
free from viruses & bacteria infestation.
“Staying hygienic is the new normal”.

Can medicines also be sterilized with UVC Disinfection?

The photostability is the properties of drug or drug product state that leads to a physical or
chemical change as the response of the drug or drug product to the exposure to solar, UV and
visible light in the solid, semisolid or liquid state.

We recommend to check the properties of the medicines before sterilizing under direct UV
Germicidal Light of Covicide Cabinet.
