SCHOOL

READINESS
PROGRAM

This School readiness program was planned and put together by tutors
and Occupational Therapy students in pursuit of increasing children's'
confidence in transitioning to kindergarten by working on the skills they
need to perform well, in and out of the classroom

Fine motor skills

Many of the activities we participate in at school involve


fine motor movements. Scissoring, pasting, writing,
drawing are all important occupations that involve the
small muscles in our hands, and children will be
required to perform these activities once they enter
school. We aim to improve and strengthen these skills in
preparation of this.

Academic skills

This programs aims to work on getting children


up to standard with their academic skills before
they enter kindergarten. We will be working on
the recognition and formation of letters and
numbers.

School Readiness

There are skills that are important to learn before


formal schooling begins. This program has
collected some of the most important one and
aims to improve these skills int he children by the
end of the program. These skills include:
- following instructions
-social skills: sharing, taking turns, navigating
social scenarios
-emotional intelligence: showing empathy,
patience,
-self care skills: taking care of their belongings,
getting ready in the morning
-self regulation skills: impulse control, how to
properly deal with any overwhelming emotions
they may feel when starting school such as
anxiety, anger etc

WHEN: Thursday 15th of August, every Thursday for 6 weeks


TIME: Thursdays at 10:00am- 11:30am (there may be more sessions available,
depending on how many people are interested.)
WHERE: Ebenezer 2/43 George St, Burwood NSW 2134
HOW MUCH: $50 per session
WHAT'S INCLUDED: sessions, booklet, report at the end of the program.
