Strategies for Enhancing Receptive Language

Strategies to improve receptive language in children include using simple sentences, following the child's lead, and using more comments than questions. Specific strategies are linguistic mapping by modeling language for the child in context using their voice; self-talk by describing one's own actions; parallel talk by describing what the child is doing; and follow-in commenting by commenting on what captures the child's attention without redirection.
