How Can The Scriptures Increase Our Faith

This document discusses how reading the scriptures can increase our faith. It provides three key points: 1) If we read and ponder the scriptures regularly, our faith will increase as we learn from the experiences of others and see how God has worked in their lives. 2) Our spirit needs constant nourishment just like our physical body, and reading the words of Christ fills and strengthens us spiritually. 3) The scriptures point us to God's teachings and a straight path to eternal life, but we must make an effort to read them regularly instead of making excuses to avoid doing so. Committing to read the scriptures daily can help strengthen our faith.

How Can The Scriptures Increase Our Faith?

An atheist (mag hambal kaw ka atheist wara tana ga pati sa Diyos) once said, in speaking of the
[Scriptures], that it was quite impossible these days to believe in any book whose author was
unknown. A Christian friend asked him if the compiler of the multiplication table was known.
“No” he answered.
“Then, of course, you do not believe in it?”
“Oh, yes, I believe in it because it works well,” replied the skeptic. “It’s true.”
“So does the [Scriptures],” said the Christian friend, and the skeptic had no answer to make.

What can we learn from this story?
If we want to know the truth and power of the scriptures we must read and ponder them. As
often as we do this, our faith will increase.
Mathew 4:4 Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the
mouth of God.
Our physical body needs constant nourishment so does our spirit. And as often as we feast
upon the words of Christ we are filled and we grow in spirit.
Every start of the year I would begin reading the Book of Mormon, but when I reach Alma I feel
discouraged to continue because it’s so long and I don’t understand it sometimes. I’ve been
doing this since I started young women and up until now I still repeat the same process.
I know I am not perfect when it comes to reading daily of the scriptures, but I am trying my best
to do it because I know it’s important and it will help increase my faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
The scriptures has personally helped me discover the experiences of people from the past, that
because of their faith they were able to overcome trials and obstacles in their lives. I like the
story of Nephi when he is persecuted by his brothers. But because of Nephi’s faith he was
blessed.
This account increased my faith that even if there is evil around us if we have faith we will be
blessed.
Faith is a principle of action. During Moses time, the Israelites were plagued with fiery serpents.
Their faith was tested that if they look on the brazen serpent they will be healed. However
many people refused to do this simple commandment and so they perished.
Like studying the scriptures it is also a commandment. It’s not a very hard thing to do, but we
know we are guilty of not doing it. We always have excuses not to, but we should repent and
commit ourselves to faithfully live this commandment.
Alma 37:44 & 46 For behold, it is as easy to give heed to the word of Christ, which will point to
you a straight course to eternal bliss, as it was for our fathers to give heed to this compass,
which would point unto them a straight course to the promised land.

O my son, do not let us be slothful because of the easiness of the way; for so was it with our
fathers; for so was it prepared for them, that if they would look they might live; even so it is
with us. The way is prepared, and if we will look we may live forever.
Do we want our faith to increase? Then let us read the scriptures.
