MY REFLECTION TOWARDS NATIONAL SERVICE TRAINING

PROGRAM (NSTP)
(Francis Macabalos Panis, BSCpE 1A, LTS 1D)

National Service Training Program (NSTP) is a required course mandated by law. And it is a
curriculum requirement for all college students under Republic Act (RA) No. 9163. The law
provides an opportunity for the youth to directly contribute in nation-building which the
government required them to do so. It is indeed a preparation and opportunity to improve youth
skills in serving others and gives them chance to be socially involved and have wider and deeper
understanding and awareness of themselves in relation to others. Furthermore, NSTP provides
every youth (college students) with significant knowledge, lessons and experiences that are
necessary for community services and serves as an open-eye for the youth to see the current
situation of the country.

Based on the information I have gathered regarding NSTP, I have learned that its objective is to
promote and integrate values education, transformational leadership, spirit of patriotism and
nationalism and sustainable social mobilization for youth development, community building and
national security. In addition, this program also aims in enhancing civic consciousness and defense
preparedness in the youth by developing the ethics of service and patriotism while undergoing
training in any of its three (3) program components which are Literacy Training System (LTS),
Civil Welfare Training System (CWTS), and Reserved Officers Training Corps (ROTC). These
various components are specially designed to enhance the youth’s active contribution to the
general welfare.

In conclusion, National Service Training Program (NSTP) has a great impact and significance
to every youth especially to the college students as they are considered as future leaders of the
country. Furthermore, youth will indeed benefit to this program as they can acquire a lots of
knowledge that will enlighten their young minds and that will make them realize that youth takes
part in nation-building.
