An Inconvenient Truth

An Inconvenient Truth is a documentary in which Al Gore describes the problems of

climate change against the backdrop of the political climate of the time, including the
hotly-debated 2000 election that cost him the presidency.

The movie shows Al Gore travelling the world with a slideshow setting out key causes,
effects and solutions to global climate change. A documentary on the threat that climate
change poses to the Earth - it's causes, effects and history and potential solutions to it.
Presented by Al Gore through a lecture that he has given to audiences across the globe,
plus through more introspective moments. It begins with an introduction to the basic
science of global warming and the greenhouse gases that cause it. It discusses the
scientist and professor who introduced Gore to the idea of climate change. Following this,
it goes into one effect of global warming: receding glaciers. This portion looks at dramatic
changes at different locations around the world through comparison photos and charts
that show an increase in temperature and carbon dioxide levels. Gore clearly shows the
evidence that the increase in global temperature over the last 100 years is, to a large
extent, due to greenhouse gas emissions from human activity. He then presents the three
‘causes’: population, technology and barriers to new thinking. To this he adds many
examples, from the US and elsewhere, of current and projected impacts of climate
change. He also discusses the possibility of abrupt climate change, which may cause, for
example, melting of the Greenland ice sheet. This would lead to a global sea level rise of
several meters. The consequences for low-lying countries and cities would be enormous.
There is scientific uncertainty about the likelihood of such events, which he recognizes.
Gore’s main point remains clear: whatever the eventual impacts, there is a need to act
immediately to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This can be achieved with current
technologies and in an affordable way, he says, although he presents few specific
examples in the film.

Summary

The film is a collection of clips of Al Gore's environmental speeches that he gave multiple
times all over the world. Gore also provides some autobiographical information about his
life on a farm as well as his experience in the presidential race.

He begins by explaining the overlap between increases in carbon emissions and

increases in global temperature. He provides a brief explanation of the basic foundational
theories on how climate change works.

He then goes into the impact of these temperature changes on the weather and increases
in major storms, like Hurricane Katrina. Other natural catastrophes worldwide are
depicted with powerful, often graphic, photos in a slideshow with several live audiences.
The next section details how Gore’s 6-year-old son had a life-threatening accident. This
event redirected Gore’s focus to what was really important about Earth and its livability
for future generations.

To avoid leaving audiences feeling hopelessly doomed, Gore rounds out the end of the
movie with a call to action, with specific things people can do to slow the rate of carbon
increases and climate change. He suggests ratifying the environmental treaty Kyoto,
taking a more active role in politics, and making more mindful purchasing choices as ways
to mitigate these negative impacts.

Mr. Gore's personal history and lifelong commitment to reversing the effects of global
climate change. A longtime advocate for the environment, Gore presents a wide array of
facts and information in a thoughtful and compelling way. An Inconvenient Truth is not a
story of despair but rather a rallying cry to protect the one earth we all share. "It is now
clear that we face a deepening global climate crisis that requires us to act boldly, quickly,
and wisely,"

An Inconvenient Truth provides several factual statements that have proven true over the
time since the movie came out a decade ago. The extent of the catastrophic climate
situation has made itself more evident, as confirmed by science.

Due to Climate change the increase in

major storms and high category hurricanes
has been substantiated, though some of
the increase is attributed to differences in
the severity rating systems and the cyclical
increase in storms. This really an eye
opener for all of us. We need to protect our
mother earth.

Another terrifying cause of Climate Change

is cracking of surface of clayey soils. This
situation burdens the people living in the
area and their source of living.

Water evaporated due to high density of

heat. This is happening because humans
forget to protect our nature. Our future
generation will suffer from our mistakes.

The doubling of the death toll of global

warming in the next 25 years is an
extrapolation of data including numbers
during deadly heat waves, the likes of
which are expected to occur with greater
frequency.

This frogs indicate that in our situation

today we learn to adapt in today’s situation
about the climate change, but we need to
wake up. We should protect what we have
not only for us but for the future
generations.

This part is how our earth should be. We

must learn to appreciate what we and learn
to take care of thing so this would last even
in generations.

Another pollution that triggers our Climate

change. I realize how important everything.
The future of our lives is in our hands.

Melting ice shelves will rise sea levels over

20 feet. Scientists agree that the ice caps
are melting, including Greenland's ice
sheet, but they disagree on the extent and
speed at which it will occur.

Unexpected tornados that can destroy

everything. The climate change is very
unpredictable. Wake up, Get up and Act.

Over one million species will become

extinct as a result of climate change.
Scientists identify global warming as
becoming as dangerous to animal species
as habitat destruction and land clearing.
