I. Mini-Lesson
A. Introduction
Our lesson for the day will talk about the different
factors which means it helps to produce or influence
a result. We should consider any factor because it
serves as a guide and it’s also a great help when we
are about to plan in making an athletic short.
Almost all people like to wear athletic shorts for any
related-sport activity. A person should choose
appropriate athletic shorts that will best fit him or
her.

Factors to Consider in Making Athletic Shorts

1. Type of Sport Activity

The type of clothes is design specifically for the kind of sports

being played. A tennis outfit usually consists of white shorts with peplum
or a very short skirt and a white t-shirt. For volleyball games, a pair of
shorts and a matching shirt is normally worn. A softball outfit consists of
a knitted pair of pants and a long-sleeved shirt jacket. Swimsuits can be
a one-piece or two-piece and are usually bought readymade.

2. Material

Choose fabrics like cotton, mesh or nylon, synthetic, and polyester

because these are suitable fabrics for athletic shorts.

3. Design

One has the option to select a solid color or something with a

unique design. Others choose a design with a pleasing effect on oneself.

We must consider and know these factors so that we can achieve

appropriate, accurate, and better athletic shorts. You can do it without
these but the more you learn these factors and use it in producing
athletic shorts the best outcome it will create. You cannot waste your
time and effort just for doing nothing.

I. Mini-Lesson

A. Introduction

Today, I will discuss to you another engaging lesson

that is all about selecting fabrics suitable for athletic
shorts. Fabrics are cloth made of fibers. Without
fabrics we don't have clothes which we are wearing
every day. It has various textures, designs that also
make it beautiful and presentable.
FABRIC SELECTION

Fabrics should be strong and durable. In sewing athletic shorts,

ensure that the fabrics are available in your locality. Sometimes, fabrics
can be recycled in sewing your athletic shorts.

 COTTON
It is the world's most popular fabric. It is cool to wear and easy to
wash and sew. It is versatile, durable, and comfortable. Inexpensive but
shrinks and wrinkles easily. It's good for items that need to be washed
often like sheets and pillows, school clothes, and work clothes.

Some examples of cotton fabrics are the following:

1. Corduroy
It is described as a type of fabric that has parallel, lengthwise
cords or ridges. The word is derived from the French word for "Cord of
the King". This can be used in making a jacket, blazer, jeans, skirt,
shorts, and upholstery.
2. Denim
A sturdy cotton twill textile in which the weft passes under two or
more warp threads. Indigo denim that only warps threads is dyed,
whereas the weft threads remain plain white. It is used for: jeans,
jackets, and children's wear.

3. Poplin
Poplin, also called tabinet (or tabbinet), is a strong fabric in a plain
weave of any fiber or blend, with crosswise ribs that typically give a
corded surface. It is used for shirts, trousers, and skirts.

4. Seersucker
A kind of cotton that crinkles and has a surface texture. It is used
to make clothing for spring and summer wear.

 SYNTHETIC
It is smooth and slippery –treated (texturized or spun); contributes
to the tendency of many woven synthetics to unravel. It is highly resilient
and wrinkle resistant. It is used for shorts.

 POLYESTER
It is a strong and durable synthetic fabric that dries quickly, with sharp
pleat and crease retention. It is ideal for constructing strong outerwear
for damp climates.

 NYLON
It was first developed as a substitute for imported silk. With
exceptional strength, excellent elasticity; retains shape. It is used for
clothing, upholstery and carpet, rope, tents, and fishing line.

I. Mini-Lesson

A. Introduction

Today, we will have another interesting topic to

discuss. Our lesson is all about taking client body
measurements. This is one of the important ways of
planning to produce athletic shorts. Kindly read and
TAKING CLIENT BODY MEASUREMENTS
Taking body measurements is one of the essential steps in the
process of making certain apparel. It is highly important to use
appropriate tools, measure body parts accurately, and record
immediately the measurements.
Parts to be measured can be taken in:

a. Vertical – It is taken from the top of the body to its base.

b. Circumferential – It is taken around the body.

Tools and Materials:

Tools and Materials:

 Tape Measure – A flexible tape used in taking body measurement.

It has 150 cm and 60 inches on the other side.

 Pencil/Ballpen – A pen that is used for writing/ recording body

measurements

 Record Book - A book that contains lists of information

 IMC (Individual Measurement Chart)
