1.0Introduction
This method statement is prepared for the construction of Abutments A & B and Piers 1,
2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9 & 10 footings. The scope of work including excavation, hacking of piles,
installation of formworks, coffer dam at river Piers, fabricate rebar and concreting.
2.0Machineries

3.0 Excavation Works
The construction of the footings shall start after the completion of spun pile driving
works. The surveyor shall carry out the surveying works and setting out for the footing
and sheet pile alignment. The sheet pile is required in condition that any excavation
works more than two metres.
Due to site constraint, materials and machineries shall only be mobilized into the
working area once the setting out is confirmed. Cofferdams in the forms of sheet piles
shall be drive into the ground, 1m away around the perimeter of the footing prior to any
excavation works. Strutting to the sheet pile cofferdam may or may not be require
depending on depth of the excavation. Figure 1 below shows the typical section of the
footing with sheet pile cofferdam installed.

4.0 Hacking Of Piles
Once the cofferdam is completed, the excavation of earth until the pile cut-off level shall
commence. Lean concrete work for the footing bases can be carried out before hacking
of pile head depending on the soil conditions. Approximately 24 hours after the footing
base has been laid lean concrete, hacking works shall commence. All pile cut-off level
shall be provided by surveyor and confirm by consultant's representatives prior to
hacking.
The pile as-built shall be taken after hacking of the pile to the cut-off level. If the
deviation of pile’s actual location is within tolerances as stated in the technical
specification which is 75mm from original pile position, the work shall proceed to the
next step without waiting for consultant’s comment on the submitted piles as-built.
Otherwise, remedial proposal shall be submitted to consultant for approval and only
proceed with the work upon receiving of the consultant’s approval.

5.0 Fabrication Of Rebar Works
On completion of pile head hacking works, the steel reinforcement including the starter
bars for the columns shall be placed. The rebars cages shall be prefabricated off site at
the bar bending area and brought to the required locations for placement. The rebar
requirements and lapping shall refer to Figure 2.

6.0 Installation Of Formworks
After the rebars have been checked and verified to be at the correct alignment, the
formwork for the footing shall be fixed. The formwork shall be using steel prefabricated
formwork. The formwork shall also be checked for the correct level, alignment and
verticality before securing into position. Before concreting, the entire assembly shall be
checked by the Engineer or his representative before concreting.
7.0 Concreting Works
Concrete shall be delivered from a nearby ready-mix plant. The details of the readymix
supplier and location of the plant together with the design mix for the various grades of
concrete shall be submitted to the Engineer for approval before concreting commences.
The requirements of concrete strength shall refer to Figure 3. Upon completion and
removal of formworks after minimum 3 days periods as according to JKR Specification
Section 9.8.4 Removal of Formwork, sheet pile shall be extract and proceed to next
footings.
