The First Conditional
The first conditional is used to talk about actions/events in the future which are likely to
happen or have a real possibility of happening.

•If it rains tomorrow, I’ll stay at home.


(I think there is a real possibility of rain tomorrow. In this condition, I will stay at home)

•If my father doesn’t buy me a bike for my birthday, I will be very unhappy.
(I think there is a real possibility that my father won’t buy me a bike. In this condition, I
will be unhappy)
If it’s sunny tomorrow, I might go to the beach. (going to the beach is only a possibility)
Grammar : First Conditional
Used to talk about events in the future that have a real possibility of happening.
If we go to the beach, we will eat seafood.
If I have an exam , I won´t go to the party.
If he doesn’t exercise, he may have health problems.
If he buys a new car , he´ll spend his savings.
If you buy the lottery, you might win some money.

Modal Verbs
Use modal verbs with a base form verb.
Some modal verbs are: will, may, might, can, could, should, must.
I will watch a movie tonight. ( won’t )
He may go to the party. ( may not )
We might donate money. ( might not )

Base form Verb : watch / go / donate
1. Take the infinitive form of the verb: to watch to go
2. Omit the preposition to: watch go
3. Incorrect : He will to go. She will works.
Contractions with Will
Contractions are commonly used in speech and informal forms of writing.
It is often contracted to ’ll in informal situations:

I’ll give you a call.


You´ll study.
He´ll go.
She´ll dance.
It´ll rain.
We´ll come.
They´ll cook.
