Introduce your personal teaching background and the triggers of choosing this title for the essay.
(This could talk about typical errors that overseas students make in general English courses)

1. Approaches for teaching articles


1). analyze the nature of articles in pedagogic grammar perspective
2). the mainstream approaches of teaching articles (this could be composed of 2 sections
including 2 main approaches, for example, presentation-based approach and task-based approach)
3). Compare the advantages and disadvantages of these two methods in article teaching

Analysis of Presentation Based Course Book

2. Analysis of Presentation-based course book in article teaching (eg. the New Headway)
Take one course book which is designed for presentation-based grammar teaching, to see how
it organizes the articles part, give some examples of the book, relate to the theories of
presentation-based approach which has been analyzed in chapter 2.

Analysis of Task-Based Course Book

3. Analysis of Task-based course book in article teaching


This will be similar to chapter 3. (eg Cutting edge)

Comparison of Presentation Based and Task Based Approaches to Teaching Articles


And give an extra section to compare the two ways of article teaching in these two course
books, analyze their advantages and disadvantages respectively

Common EFL Student Problems with Articles

4. EFL students’ problems of using articles


Targeting EFL students, analyze typical errors of these student using articles in writing and
speaking relating some references (such as Learner English)

Conclusion & Recommendations

Integrate all the chapters above to analyze the two approaches of teaching articles to EFL
students, give a conclusion which should contain the advantages and disadvantages of these
approaches to teach the target students based on the analysis of Chapter 5. Finally give
recommendation that which approach will be considered more suitable to teach articles to
EFL students.

5. Conclusion and recommendations

The kind of resources you may consult will be course books, pedagogic grammars, grammar
practice books, reading you have had so far, or any relevant articles from the ELT Journal,
TESOL Quarterly or other similar journals. You SHOULD NOT research or consult any
linguistics materials/books/articles because THESE ARE NOT AIMED AT PEDAGOGIC
GRAMMAR.
