Feasibility Study
The Interact district 3220 has featured the Interflash Music Festival at Nelum pokuna in Colombo
SriLanka each January for four years. The event has grown steadily, but in last year it was bit different
comparing to the past events. The purpose of this report is to make a series of recommendations for
the Interflash musical event designers. The recommendations and information contained in this report
are designed to keep this events reputation and success. Interviews with locals, and interviews with past
festival sponsors, attendees, non attendees helped us a lot for a better research.
The event has a positive reputation in the region but some people who regularly attend similar events
have not attended this one because of the similarities between Interflash and contemporary events.
Invited guest artists and performing music bands are the main reason to this problem, so the organizers
have to pay attention on this matter. Events security operations in the past also have been considered
weak according to people in surrounding area. Drugs and street violations are going up on this events
night. However, while it is not clear what percentage of attendees are in this category, it is likely to be a
minority. It will be a huge task for the Interflash organizing team to control these kind of problems
happening around the event.
Comparing to other events Interflash is a very eco friendly campaign throughout the whole program.
They use recyclable tickets, recyclable decorations and many more eco friendly items but in the same
time sound pollution is a big trending problem related to the Interflash. This noisy outdoor event is
happening in the night time at the most crowded city on the Island. There are lots of complains from the
neighbour places around the Nelum pokuna. So the organizers have to rethink and adjust the event
venue or timeframe of the event.
When it comes to the Economic side of the event Interflash, it's not very hard to find how much
revenue came from the past events. Number of sold out tickets and the sponsorship money are the
main feeding incomes to the event. The festival has attracted anywhere between 4000 to 5000 in the
past year. VIP ticket price was at Rs.3000 per person and the normal ticket price was at 1500 per
person. In the end there were lots of complains about the ticket pricing because most of the services
and the treatments were almost same for both parties. This is one of the very critical point that needs a
big change in Interflash. To archive Financial viability focusing on these areas will be a huge advantage
1.Cost Saving measures ( eg.- Successful discussions with the guest artist for better prices )
2.Marketing and promotions ( eg.- Effective methods like Emailing the past ticket purchasers)
3.Increasing revenue in new innovative methods (eg.- Creating new content for more sponsors )
