Fiat switchable diagnostic cable KKL-Line

• Price: $ 10.29

Cable - adapter K-Line USB allows you to connect a PC, laptop and tablet to most cars
with a standard diagnostic OBDII connector. Designed to diagnose the work and reset
errors of various auto systems.
It differs from a lot of such cables using the FTDI chip converter (operating at a non-
standard transmission-10400 rate) and the presence of a switch that allows you to hook
up to various OBDII contacts to extend the adapter's usage on different cars. A useful
feature of such an adapter is the ability to diagnose not only the ECU (ECU), but also
many SRS (AirBag), some ABS, BCM, etc - the main thing is that they have a K-Line
and the appropriate program at hand.

At the given seller these cables have ended, but it is possible to find them easily, for
example here
Aliexpress.com/item/VAG-KKL-USB-FIAT-ECU-SCAN-Free-Shipping/1605070824.html
The case is made of translucent blue plastic, quite durable
The USB cable is quite long - 1.5 m.
The red indicator lights when connected to the board and winks a little when
communicating.
Nothing valuable was found on the disk - there are drivers 2004g, VAG COM 2004g and
FiatECUScan16.
The number of programs working with this cable is great, for example: CASCADE, Vasya
Diagnostics, ScanMaster, OpenDiagPro, OBD Scan Tech, TECU, Diagnostic Tool,
EasyOBDII, Digimoto, Chip tuning, PCMSCAN, KWP_D, Tiggo Diag, etc.
With a 24V cable, the cable is incompatible.

Without disassembly of course, the same did not happen

The adapter is made pretty well.

Real cable layout.

U1 - USB to Serial COM converter TTL (FT232RL)

U2 - a comparator for level conversion (LM393)

The Chinese even here managed to nurse.

1. Incorrectly marked connection contacts in the right position of the switch. Instead of
12/13 really connected 11/12 Fixed
2. The switching threshold of the input comparators is incorrectly organized. Instead of
the ISO 9141 and ISO 14230 specifications for K and L lines, 70% of the on-board
power supply (about 8.5V) recorded it at 65% of the USB power (3.1V). Those. Actually
used the levels for the ancient ALDL protocol from GM. This is probably done to improve
compatibility with old ECUs from GM at the expense of stability, although in most cases,
such a scheme will work fine. More correct was to add a 5 / 12B switch. To fix the cant,
the SMD resistor R9 drank and sealed the usual 2kΩ as follows:

In some cases, the device will work normally and without rework, and if not - the
soldering iron in hand ...

3. There is no hysteresis of level switching. In the presence of strong interference on

long lines, the device can be unstable. I did not fix it, it works as well. The line is short.

4. The lines K and L are absolutely identical, i.e. If the line K is interchanged with the
line L - nothing will change. Here the Chinese have done something wrong, because L-
Line always works only for information transfer, and from the RTS line. We can assume
that in this adapter instead of L-Line put another K-Line by logic OR, hard-setting it to
15pin OBDII
Modern cars L-Line no longer use, so I did not alter it.

The FTDI FT232RL chip could not be unoriginal - the adapter works with both old and
new original drivers under WinXP x86 and Win8.1 x86
Just in case, the old drivers
Yadi.sk/d/LjLgjU5Ndri6z
New drivers are automatically installed

After installing the drivers in the properties, we reduce the waiting time from 16 msec
to 10 msec, after which it is necessary to reboot the PC. After that, the adapter works
more stably.

Conclusion: a useful device for amateur car diagnostics.
