                          Chapter I: Introduction
Background of the Study
Gardening is becoming more efficient in the recent
years. A variety of gardening methods have been discovered
and are being used in the 21st century. The researchers
desire to add a new recipe to gardening, using materials
usually found at homes. The study focuses on finding the
bread that is most suitable for germinating mung beans
(vigna radiata).
The researchers will conduct experiments to find the
bread that is deemed to be most suitable for the mung bean
(vigna radiata) to germinate on. The researchers will
observe and record the progress, changes and development of
the mung bean (vigna radiata). The chosen bread will serve
as a nursery bed for the mung bean (vigna radiata).
Bread is one a common material that is abundant. The
researchers conducted the experiment to utilize the unused
potential of bread, and show that with a little creativity
an effective product can be made.
Statement of the Problem
The study was conducted to investigate the germination
of vigna radiata (mung bean) on bread in REH Montessori
College as perceived by grade 10 students during S. Y. 2018-
2019.
        1. Does the amount of water affect the growth of mung
          bean?
        2. Does sunlight affect the growth of mung bean?
        3. Does the amount of bread affect the growth of the
          mung bean?
        4. How does this experiment affect the bread?
        5. Is there a significant difference between the time
it took for the mung bean to sprout in bread and
          in soil?
Hypothesis
        1. Does the amount of water affect the growth of mung
          bean?
             a. Operational Hypothesis
The amount of water does affect the
                           growth of mung bean.
             b. Null Hypothesis
The amount of water does not affect
                           the growth of mung bean.
        2. Does sunlight affect the growth of mung bean?
             a. Operational Hypothesis
Sunlight does affect the growth of
                           mung bean.
             b. Null Hypothesis
Sunlight does not affect the growth
                           of mung bean.
3. Does the amount of bread affect the growth of the
  mung bean?
     a. Operational Hypothesis
The amount of bread does affect the
                 growth of the mung bean.
     b. Null Hypothesis
The amount of bread does not affect
the growth of the mung bean.
4. How does this experiment affect the bread?
     a. Operational Hypothesis
                This experiment positively affects
                 the bread.
     b. Null Hypothesis
                This experiment negatively affects
                 the bread.
5. Is there a significant difference between the time
it took for the mung bean to sprout in bread and
  in soil?
     a. Operational Hypothesis
                There is a significant difference
between the time it took for the
mung bean to sprout in bread and in
                 soil.
     b. Null Hypothesis
                There is a significant difference
between the time it took for the
mung bean to sprout in bread and in
                 soil.
Significance of the Study
The result of this study might prove that it is
possible to germinate mung beans on bread. In the current
generation, the soil is intentionally or unintentionally
being abused and exhausted. The study is conducted to
alleviate the burden of the soil by providing an alternative
medium for plants to grow on, though the study only covers
mung beans (vigna radiata). Currently, there are various
ways to germinate crops, thanks to technology and science
advancements, but most of them are expensive to set up or
difficult to keep or obtain especially for common people.
This research, on the contrary, is easy and simple. The
study might help others come up with a better idea.
Scopes and Limitations
This study was conducted for the germination of vigna
radiate (mung bean) on bread in REH Montessori College as
perceived by grade 10 students during S. Y. 2018-2019. The
condition of the weather during the length of the study may
be unstable and unpredictable. The plants may be deprive of
sunlight or receive excess water due to rain. The
temperature of the area may affect the survivability of the
beans. The mung beans themselves may be infertile or
defective.
Definition of Terms
Nursery bed is a specially prepared portion of land
put aside for raising seedlings. It acts as a
temporary home for young plants until they are
eventually planted in a permanent garden.
Vigna Radiata, commonly called mung bean, is a plant
species in the legume family. It is used as an
ingredient in both savoury and sweet dishes.
