Foreword
This standard is corresponding to International Standard ISO 6934-5: 1991 Steel for the
prestressing of concrete – Part 5: Hot-rolled steel bars with or without subsequent processing,
this standard is not equivalent to International Standard.
Comparing with ISO 6934-5: 1991, main changes of this standard as follows:
– The shape of steel bars in this standard is screw-thread, it may be bright or ribbed in
International Standard;
– The division of strength grade is different, added the steel bars which yield strength is Grade
785 into this standard;
– The scope of nominal diameter is different, this standard is 18 mm to 50 mm, International
Standard is 15mm to 40 mm.
The appendix A of this standard is normative.
This standard is proposed by China Iron & Steel Association.
This standard is governed by National Steel Standardization Technical Committee.

1 Scope
This standard specifies the terms and definitions of screw-thread steel bars for the prestressing of
concrete (steel bars for short), as well as strength grade code, dimensions, shapes, weight,
permissible deviation, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, packaging, labeling
and quality certification, etc.
This standard is applicable to screw-thread steel bars for the prestressing of concrete which
produced by technology such as hot-rolling, remained heat treatment after rolling or heat treatment,
etc.

3 Terms and Definitions
For the purpose of the following definitions apply to this standard.
3.1 Screw-thread steel bars
The screw-thread steel bars defines in this standard is straight steel bar with male thread of
discontinuous by hot rolling, this steel bars can be connected and anchored by connector or
anchorage with shape matching of female screw at any section of this steel bars.
3.2 Nominal circle area
Circle area of steel bars without screw-thread
3.3 Coefficient of efficiency section
The ratio of steel bars and theoretical circle area of circle area (with circle area of screw-thread);
4 Code of Strength Grade
The division of screw-thread steel bars for the prestressing of concrete as yield strength, which the
code will be represented by PSB and minimum value of specified yield strength. P, S, B is initial
characteristics of Prestressing, Screw, Bars. E.g.: PSB830 represents that steel bars which
minimum value of yield strength is 830 MPa.
5 Order Content
It shall including following contents at least as per order contract in this standard:
a) Serial number of this standard;
b) Name of product;
c) Code of strength grade of product;
d) Specifications and weight (or number);
e) Special requirements;

6 Dimensions, Shapes, Weights and Permissible Deviations
6.1 Range of nominal diameter and recommended diameter
The range of nominal diameter of steel bars is 18 mm to 50 mm, the recommended nominal
diameter of this standard is 25 mm and 32 mm. Can be provided for steel bars with others
specifications according to user requirements;
6.2 Nominal circle area and theoretical weight
The nominal circle area and theoretical weight of steel bars were shown in Table 1

6.5 Length and permissible deviation
6.5.1 Generally, the steel bar is delivered as per fixed length, it shall be indicated in contract with
delivery length in detail. Can be carried out cutting and reprocessing according to require length
from buyer.
6.5.2 If the steel bar is delivered as per fixed length or double length, permissible deviation of
length is 0 to +20 mm.
6.6 Curvature and ends
6.6.1 The curvature of steel bras shall not affect on normal use, per meter curvature of steel bars
shall not more than 4 mm, total curvature shall not more than 0.4% of total length of steel bars.
6.6.2 The ends of steel bars shall be even and do not affect the connector through it.
6.7 Weight and permissible deviation
6.7.1 The steel bars shall be delivered as per actual weight or theoretical weight.
6.7.2 The permissible deviation of actual weight and theoretical weight of steel bars shall not more
than ±4% of theoretical weight which specified in Table 1.
7 Technical Requirements
7.1 Designation and chemical components
7.1.1 For smelting analysis to steel bars, the contents of sulfur and phosphorus shall not more than
0.035%. The manufacturer shall be carried out selecting for chemical components and alloy
elements, so as to ensure that steel bars which produced by different methods able to meet the
mechanical properties requirements specified in Table 3.
7.1.2 The permissible deviation of chemical components analysis for steel bars shall be in
accordance with the regulations of GB/T 222
7.2 Smelting methods

Smelting of steel with oxygen converter or electrical furnace;
7.3 Delivery state
The steel bar shall be delivered as per vertical bar in hot rolling state, remained heat treatment
after rolling state or heat treatment state.
7.4 Mechanical properties
7.4.1 The mechanical properties of steel bars shall be in accordance with Table 3.

Note: If there is not obvious yielding, replaced by strength (Rp0.2) at non-proportional extension
7.4.2 On the basis which ensues that qualified of relaxation property within 1000 h, can be carried
out relaxation tests in 10 h, initial stress is 80% of nominal yield strength, relaxation rate no more
than 1.5%.
7.4.3 The elongation type is usual used for A, may also use Agt through negotiation of supplier and
buyer.
7.4.4 Can be carried out fatigue tests through negotiation of supplier and buyer.
7.5 Quality of surface
7.5.1 The surface of steel bars shall not be any horizontal cracks, rolling skin and folded.
7.5.2 Other defects which not affect mechanical properties and connecting to steel bars are
allowable.
8 Test Methods
8.1 Inspection items
The inspection items, sampling methods and test methods of each batch steel bars shall be in
accordance with the regulations of Table 4.

8.2 Tensile tests
8.2.1 The tensile tests shall be on adopts for steel bars with total section dimension. Specimen
reduced the section is not allowable.
8.2.2 The determination of unit stress shall be calculated according to nominal circle area as
shown in Table 1.
8.2.3 The determination of Agt refers to Appendix A.
8.2.4 For steel bars which each batch weight more than 60 t, the exceed parts, adding a tensile
specimen when every increased 40 t.
8.3 Relaxation test
8.3.1 The stress relaxation property of steel bars shall be in accordance with the regulations of
GB/T 10120.
8.3.2 During the testing, the environment temperature of specimen shall keep within 20℃±2℃.
8.3.3 The standard distance length of specimen shall not less than 60 times of nominal diameter.
8.3.4 After preparation of specimen, shall not carry out any heat treatment and cold working.
8.3.5 The initial load shall be finished to apply within 3 min to 5 min, record relaxation value after
1min.
8.3.6 Calculated relaxation value of 1000 h with test data of 100 h at least is allowable.
8.4 Dimension measurement
In addition to dimension measurement for appearance of steel bars, shall also inspection the
precession used for connector with shape matching.
9 Inspection Rules
9.1 Inspection and acceptance
The inspection and acceptance of steel bars shall be carried out by supplier; the buyer will be
entitled to carry out inspection.
9.2 Batching rules
It shall carry out inspection and acceptance for steel bars as batching; each batch shall be
composed of same furnace, same specification and same delivery state.
9.3 Number of sampling

The number of sampling on each inspection item for steel bars shall be in accordance with the
regulations of Table 4.
9.4 Retest and judgment
The retest and judgment for steel bars shall be in accordance with the regulations of GB/T 17505
9.5 Mechanical connection
The connection of steel bars with spiral-type connector is allowed, the manufacturer shall ensure
that steel bars at any cutting point can be connected with steel bars for any others length. The
connector and anchorage can be provided by manufacturer of steel bars; The connector and
anchorage shall be in accordance with relevant regulations of GB/T 14370.
10 Packaging, Marking and Quality Certification
10.1 The marking for steel bars shall comply with following regulations.
10.1.1 It shall be carried out painting to end of steel bars as per strength grade, such as: without
painting to PSB785, painting to PSB830 with white color, painting to PSB930 with yellow color,
painting to PSB1080 with red color,
10.1.2 Steel bars can be used for labeling methods, the strength grade of steel bars shall be
indicated that as PSB785, PSB830, PSB930 and PSB1080, the millimeter shall be indicated as
Arabic numerals
10.1.3 The contents of labeling is clear and fastness
10.2 In addition to above description, the packaging, labeling and qualify certification shall be in
accordance with relevant regulations of GB/T 2101.

Appendix A
(Normative)
Determination methods of total elongation of steel bars under maximum force
A.1 Specimen
A.1.1 Length
The minimum free length between specimens of clamp shall comply with the requirements of

A.1.2 The marking and measurement for original standard distance
Within the range of free length of specimen, divided into equal distance marking with 10 mm or 5
mm, the division and measurement shall be in accordance with the regulations of GB/T 228.
A.2 Tensile test
Carry out tensile test according to the regulations of GB/T 228, till the specimen fracture.
A.3 Measurement after fracture
Using the label of Y and V, the distance between two labels shall be 100 mm at least before tensile
test. Two labels shall be located on farthest side of clamp distance to fracture point. The distance
of clamp between two labels shall not less than 20 mm or nominal diameter d of steel bars (used
for larger one); the distance between two labels and fracture point shall not less than 50 mm or 2d
(used for larger one). See Figure A.1
