2019 Pup Intramurals: The Rainy Beginning
In celebration of the 115th Foundation Anniversary with a theme “PUP: Isandaan
at Labinlimang Taong Pagpupugay ng Husay at Talino ng Kabataang Pilipino”,
Polytechnic University of the Philippines started the University Intramurals 2019 with
an opening ceremony in the PUP Grandstand Oval at 4:00 P.M.
Despite the heavy rains, PUP Representatives from various University offices,
colleges, branches and campuses, Laboratory High School, and Senior High School
paraded around the PUP Main Campus. With their banners and balloons on hand,
athletes, professors, and University Officials marched towards the PUP Oval as they
wear their colors and represents their teams.
The opening ceremony started with a Community dance from PUP Community,
and a Doxology and Philippine National Anthem performed by Bagong Himig Serenata.
Then, Dr. Emanuel C. De Guzman spoke for an opening remarks, followed by an
inspirational message from the Guest Speaker Hon. William I. Ramirez and an
awarding of plaque of recognition from PUP Executive Officials.
To light the torch, PUP Executive Officials and Maharlika Dance Artist stepped
up to lead this part of the ceremony.
As the program reached its end, Mr. Enrico Gomez, 2018 MVP - Men’s Basketball
Student Division, first guided the players in the Oath of Sportsmanship. After that, Dr.

PUP University Intramurals 2019:
COC Men’s Volleyball eyes second win vs CAFA
College of Communication (COC) continues its road to redemption when it
clashes with College of Architecture and Fine Arts (CAFA) today in the PUP University
Intramurals 2019 held at the PUP Open Court.
The team showed their offensive and defensive attacks and jumped to a 10-4
lead before the CAFA racked up four straight points to make things a little more
interesting. The first set of the game ended with the score 25-13, in favor of COC.
Despite of the intense heat in the PUP Open Court, the team were eager to capture
their second win and continue their fight to the game finals.
COC leaned on their captain Kervin Aguillon in the second set and delivered the
blows, together with the second stringers, as they crushed the CAFA’s defense with
powerful smashes from start to finish, ending the game with 25-18.
COC will see action against CTHTM on Wednesday, 1 pm at the PUP Open
Court.

Pylon Watch, Emblazed
Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) students were amused and
blissful as traditional Pylon Run embarked last Tuesday, October 1 as a part of the
115th University Intramurals celebration. Pylon Run is a yearly parade that transpire
every first day of October, the Foundation Day of the PUP.
The parade was participated by unclothed members of fraternity who were
holding placards which enunciate about the current issues that our country faces. The
parade started at about 3 o'clock in the afternoon at Charlie Del Rosario Building,
where the members of Alpha Phi Omega (APO) Fraternity forge to the Catwalk and
revert to Popeye for the closing of the parade.
For this year, APO declared their opposition stand as the issue of hazing grew
because of one of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) cadet's death and also the
hazing issue on one of the Fraternity at University of Philippines (UP).
Before the Pylon Run, the Foundation Day was started by a program earlier in
the morning at the Freedom Park. It was held by the University staff together with the
PUP President, Dr. Emanuel P. De Guzman as they exhibit the new concrete signage
#PUPian.
The 115th PUP Anniversary was celebrated together with the Pre- Elimination
Round of Miss PUP.
