I will group you into two. My right side will

be the group 1 and the other side will be the
group 2. The mechanics of this game is to
choose which does not belong to the group. I
will give you three letters as your choices.
You will raise the letter of your choice. The
fastest group who will raise the correct
answer will get a point. The first group who
will get the highest point will be the winner
and will receive a prize.

Class, what do you think is our topic for

today?

Precisely!
C. Activity

I will group you into four. I will give you an

envelope containing your tasks and the
materials you will need. For your
presentation, each group must present a yell
regarding to your task. You only have 5
minutes to do your tasks and 2 minutes for
each presentation. After the presentation of
your yell, each group must have one
representative in front. But before you
proceed, be guided by the following criteria:

Criteria Points

D. Analysis

1. How can you describe the line segment in Figure 1, a line segment whose two end
figure 1 and 2? points are points on the circle and figure 2,
where the line intersects the circle at two
distinct points on the circle.
Very good!

2. What have you noticed about the figure The line which intersects the circle at
3? exactly one point on the circle.

Very good!

3. In figure 5, what have you noticed in angle The < CTE is an inscribed angle
CTE?

Very Good!

4. What is the center of a circle? How about Point X, point Y

the point on a circle?

E. Abstraction
Circle is the set of all points in a plane
that are equidistant from a fixed point called
the center. It means that all points in a circle
have equal distance from the center. The
circle is named by writing a small circle and
inside it is a dot, then the letter of the center.

There are some terms related to circle.

The first one is the radius. This is a line
segment that joins the center of a circle to a
point on the circle. The example of the radius
is the Figure 7. This is named using the point
of the center and a point on a circle, and
using the symbol for line segment.
The next term is the diameter. This is a
line segment that connects two points on a
circle and passes through the center of a
circle.
The next term is slightly similar to the
diameter. It is the chord. This is a line
segment whose two endpoints are points on
the circle. The difference between the
diameter and the chord is that the diameter
passes through the center while the chord
does not pass through the center.
Remember that a diameter is also a
chord since its two end points are also the
points on the circle. Diameter is considered
as the longest chord.
A diameter is a chord but chord is not a
diameter.
The next term is the secant and tangent.
The secant is a line which intersects the
circle at two distinct points on the circle.
While the tangent is a line which intersects
the circle at exactly one point on the circle
called the point of tangency. In naming the
tangent, write the points intersected by the
line in both ends then write the symbol for
the line.
There are also some terms of angles
related to circle. These are the central
angles and the inscribed angles. A central
angle is an angle whose one of the vertex is
the center of the circle.
An inscribed angle is an angle whose
vertices are points on the circle.
The last terms are the arcs. There are
three kinds of arcs, the semicircle, the major
arc and the minor arc.
The semicircle is an arc with a measure
equal to one-half of a circle. The major arc is
an arc that measures greater than a
semicircle while the minor arc is an arc less
than a semicircle. They are named using the
symbol for arc and the points on the circle.

F. Application

Directions: Complete each statement by

filling the blanks with the correct answers.
Choose your answer from the box below.
*semi-circle *secant
*tangent *center
*vertex

1. The _______ is a line which intersects the secant

circle at two distinct points on the circle.

2. Circle is the set of all points in a plane that center

are equidistant from a fixed point called -
_______.

3. _______ is a line which intersects the tangent

circle at exactly one point on the circle called
the point of tangency

4. A central angle is an angle whose one of vertex

the _______ is the center of the circle.

5. The ________ is an arc with a measure semi-circle

equal to one-half of a circle.

G. Valuing
Who is the center of your life? God is the center of our life.

Why God is the center of your life? Answers may vary

Very Good!

Yes, God is the center of our lives. God

created us all equal. But everyone is unique.
Everyone has his own identity and
personality. We are like the set of points on
the circle of God which is the Earth, we have
equal distances from the center which is God
but each of us is named through different
identity. We should not judge anyone.
Nobody on earth has the right to judge a
person for whom he was born to be. We are
all flowers in the garden of God.
