Engage Egg Drop Description: One member of the group will hold and mark the distance 10inches, 20inches and 30inches and another member will hold a stopwatch. Each team will select one member who will throw the egg with the same in egg A,B and C. The timer will record the total time of launching and the time it hits the ground. Distribution and checking of the Materials. Clean as you go. Leave no trace. Exploration The students will answer Guide questions provided after the activity. 1. What have you observed from the activity? What happened to the eggs when they hit the ground? 2. Which egg has the least damaged? Why do you think it has the least damage? 3. Which egg has the greatest damaged? Why do you think it has the greatest damage? 4. How do the increasing height and time affect the damage on the egg? Explanation Presentation of the result of each group. Elaboration Word equation will be introduced. From the variables identified by the students, the formula of impulse will be derived. Impulse=f x t The product of net force and time interval is called impulse. *Different scenarios and problem will be shown to determine the relationship of force and time to impulse. Sample problems: 1. What is the impulse given to an object by a 17.0 N force that acts for 0.0250 s? 2. A 200 g car is accelerated so that its velocity changes from 1.5 m/s to 4.5 m/s in 4s. What is its impulse? Applying force on an object over a longer period of time results in greater change in momentum. Evaluation Directions: Answer the following questions. 1. A driver is driving his jeepney. It suddenly goes out of control. The driver has a choice between slamming his into either a stack sacks of charcoal or a concrete wall. If you were the driver, which will you choose? Why? 2. A 2kg mass is acted upon by a force of 50 N for 10s? What is its impulse? 3. A force of 30,000 N is exerted for 4.00s, on a 95,000kg mass. 3.1. What is the impulse of the force for this 4.00s? 3.2. What is the mass’s change in momentum from this impulse? 3.3. What is the mass’s change in velocity from this impulse? 3.4. Why can’t we find the resulting change in kinetic energy of the mass? 4.
