STUDENT TEACHING SELF-EVALUATION ESSAY

(Electronic version available on BB)

Write at least one well developed paragraph in response to each of the following questions. Be
specific and give examples as evidence to support your responses. This essay is to be typed and handed
in with your student teaching plans.

1. What was the most successful part of your student teaching week? Explain WHY.
The most successful part of my student-teaching week was the theme itself along with the actual
activities themselves. They were all very successful and every child loved them. They were mostly
art and sensory, which everyone loves. Everyone did the activities except the baby because we (the
teachers and I) were afraid she was going to eat something she wasn’t supposed to.

2. What would you change/do differently if you were to teach this theme again? WHY?

The things I would change/do differently is implement 3 activities instead of 2 because we had extra
time, most days and they seemed to really enjoy them. The next thing I would do is make sure the
books I put in the book center are soft-plush books or very sturdy books, because Wednesday
morning I took most of them out because the children kept biting the books, tearing the pages out;
etc.

3. What was the most difficult part of planning your student teaching week? WHY?

The most difficult part of planning my student teaching week was finding activities that were
appropriate for this age because a lot of the activities I found were for the preschool age and up. The
other thing I had a hard time with was finding activities that didn’t have actual food in them. One of
their rules is no food is allowed because of allergies; etc.
4. What was the most difficult part of implementing your student teaching week? WHY?

The most difficult part of implementing my student teaching week was making sure everyone enjoyed
the activities, used the tools that were provided appropriately and trying to have them not get too
messy. I thought this was the most difficult because not everyone likes/wants to do the activity and to
make sure they know how to use the tools provided and they aren’t hurting themselves or friends with
them.

5. What did you learn about yourself as a teacher from planning and teaching this theme?

The thing I learned about myself as a teacher from planning and implementing this theme is that you
need to be detailed when explaining the activity and linking it to the real world/life. I also learned
you need a lot of patience when it comes to any situation and lastly, making sure the activities are
developmentally appropriate.

6. Based on this student teaching experience, what are your personal goals for your next student
teaching experience in ECE 212?

Based on my student teaching experience, my personal goals for my next student teaching
experience is to work on introducing the activity before beginning, making sure it’s linked to the
theme or they just understand and get them excited for the activity.
