about Basketball.

FIRM-UP

Okay class, let me introduce to you the

basketball game. Are you ready?
(Teacher will play video clip)

Basketball is a team sport.

It is played outdoors.
Two teams of five players each try to score Answer may vary
points against one another by throwing a ball
through a 3m high hoop.

Okay class. Did you know who invented the

game basketball?

Okay, the game basketball is originally

invented by a Canadian physical education
instructor name James Naismith in 1891.

Back then, the game was played with an

ordinary soccer ball and peach baskets
between 2 teams of 9 players each. There
were 13 rules.

But now then, the basketball is played by two

teams with a squad of 12 players to choose
from. Five of those players are allowed on the
court at any one time, with unlimited
substitutions.

The game consists of four quarters of 10

minutes each, with a 15-minute break at half-
time.

If the game is tied after the fourth period, it

continues with an extra period of five minutes,
then as many five-minute periods as are
necessary to break the tie.

Points are scored for shooting the basketball

through the hoop.

Two points for a goal inside the three-point

semi-circle, and three points for goals scored
from outside.

Free throws, taken from the free-throw line

and awarded after a foul, are worth one point.

Okay class, let me show you the ideal

basketball court and its corresponding
measurements or dimensions. If you have a
question just ask. Are we clear?
Yes sir.

Shooting, Dribbling, passing,

rebounding, running.
(Teacher will point out and describe each
part)

Class, do you know what are the basic skills in

basketball?

What are those?

Very well said.

Okay class, so the first basic skill in basketball is

is shooting. In order to score points in
basketball, you need to shoot the ball into the
hoop.

This requires the ability to properly hold and

throw the ball into the air toward the basket
while avoiding defenders.

There are different types of shots you need to

learn, including jump shots, layups, dunks, and Yes sir.
free throws.
I will show you the types of shooting. Are we
following class?
(Teacher will show videoclip)

Okay, so let’s proceed to the next basic skill in

basketball , the dribbling. In basketball,
dribbling is the legal method of advancing the
ball by oneself, as opposed to passing it to
another player or shooting for the basket. It
consists of bouncing the ball on the floor
continuously with one hand while walking or
running down the court.

The basic types of dribbling are:

High dribble
A normal dribble, usually when there are no Yes sir.
nearby defenders to steal the ball.

Low dribble
Keeping the ball low to the floor, thus
decreasing the area between the hand and the
floor, making it more difficult to steal.

I will show you types of dribbling. Are we

following class?
(Teacher will show videoclip)

Next basic skill in basketball is passing. One of

the primary skills created to accomplish this is
passing. It is a skill that maximizes the
involvement of all player in setting up a play to
earn successful shots and earn points for the
whole team.

Basically, there are two types of pass: air pass

and bounce pass.
Air pass travels between players without
hitting the floor.

Bounce pass is thrown to the floor so that

it bounces to the intended receiver.

Next basic skill in basketball is rebounding. It is

one of the major aspects of the game. It is
your ability to jump with power to gain
possession of the ball as it bounces to the rim
after a failed shot before it touches the floor.

Whenever you grab a rebound, your team

gains a chance to shoot again while the other
team actually loses it.
Now I will show you a video clip showing the
proper rebounding. Are you following class?
(Teacher show a video clip)

And lastly, the last basic skill in basketball is

the running.

Running is one of the basic skills that a

basketball player should possess. Because in
this sport, speed defines the best. Whether
you’re on the offensive or defensive side of the
game, passing, receiving, shooting or
rebounding a ball, you always have to run in
any way possible. Here are some tips for you
to improve your running skills:
-Always have a good pair of playing shoes. Yes sir.
- Always do a combination of dynamic
stretching
and warm-up activities across the court before
going out to play a game.

DEEPEN

Now you know the basic skills in basketball.

Let’s try if you really listen to my discussion.
So, let’s have an outside activity. Are you
excited class?

Okay, I want you to group into 5 each group

will be assigned to execute one basic skill in
basketball. Are you ready class?

But before that, we will first have 3 min

warm-up exercise.

Okay let’s go outside now.

GROUP 1 – SHOOTING (Students execute the assign basic

skill)
GROUP 2 – DRIBBLING

GROUP 3 – PASSING

GROUP 4 – REBOUNDING
