What makes a good subject? Doing
something active (provides good b roll).
Interesting to you. Has stories. Ideally, not fully
interview based. Imagining shots, images, b
roll, stories.
Story: Think about the movements of the
piece. 3-5 minutes on just one thing will be
boring.
Make a Starting Point: Where are we at the
start of the video?
Listen to the Audio With Headphones:

turn the heat/air off to avoid the noise.

My Production Tips
Use a tripod for everything
Have at least 2 sources of audio
Use our lighting kit
Research the type of shoot, video, genre that you are going to make.
Watch samples and breakdown what things are good and bad.
What makes good and bad performance/large lecture filming? What
makes good and bad one on one filming? What makes good and
bad filming in an office. Think about how zooms, lighting, etc. are
happening.
Interview Shots: The most important part about the interview is the
audio. Rule of thirds. Medium shot from a side angle. Close up on
hands.
Interviewing: Try your hardest not to interrupt or have auditory cues of
agreement. Agree by shaking your head. Let people tell their stories.
Plan on someone having an external hard drive to save your video on
to. These files will be big. They may not fit on a thumb drive.
Ask for the Interview: Give a heads up on the types of questions and
stories you will be asking for before the big day.
Production Vocabulary

the environment. Shots without the subject.
