ToaddadocumenttotheUnknownAuthorsbox,clickonAddDocument(bluearrow).Awindowwill
open(seepicturebelow)whereyoumayselectyourdesireddocuments.A ermakingyourselec ons,
clickonOpen(purplearrow)toaddthedocumentstotheUnknownAuthorsbox.

ThedocumentnowappearsintheUnknownAuthorsbox(bluearrow).

JGAAPwillalwayspickoneoftheknownauthorsasthemostlikelyauthorofanydocument.Thismeans
thatyouneedatleasttwoknownauthorsforameaningfulanalysis.
ToadddocumentstotheKnownAuthorsbox,clickonAddAuthor(pinkarrow).Awindowwillopen
(seepicturebelow).ClickonAddDocument(greenarrow).

Anotherwindowwillopenwhereyoumayselectyourdesireddocuments(seeexamplebelow).A er
makingyourselec ons,clickonOpen(greenarrow).

Nextyouwilltypeinthenameoftheauthorfortheselecteddocument(s)(pinkarrow).Whenyouare
finished,clickonOK(purplearrow).

ThedocumentnowappearsintheKnownAuthorsbox(bluearrow).

Seedocumentsaddedinexamplebelow.Whenyouhavefinishedloadingallofyourdocuments,clickon
Next(purplearrow)tomoveontotheCanonicizerstab.

OntheCanonicizerstab(picturedbelow),youmayselectyourdesiredcanoniciza ontechniques.These
techniqueswillbeappliedtoeachdocumentinordertostandardizethedocumentsbeforefeaturesare
extractedfromthem.Please Note: Canonicizers are oponal so you do not have to make a selecon unless
desired.

Selec ngacanonicizer(brownarrow)willdisplayitscorrespondingdescrip on(greenarrow).When


choosingcanonicizers,youhavethreeop ons:youmaysetacanonicizertooneormorespecificdocuments
(pinkarrow),ortoaspecificdocumenttype(i.e..pdf,.doc,etc.)(grayarrow),oryoumaychoosetosetitto
allofthedocumentsinthelist(redarrow).Onceyouhaveappliedacanonicizertoadocument,youwill
no cethattheCanonicizercolumnchangestoYesforthatdocument(bluearrow).

Toremoveacanonicizerthatyouhavealreadyselected,clickonthebackarrow(seebluearrowinexample
below).YoumayalsoclickonCleartoremoveallofyourselec ons(pinkarrow).Remembertoclickon
SettoAllDocstoapplyyourchanges.

Whenyouhavefinishedapplyingcanonicizerstoyourlistofdocuments,clickonNext(purplearrow)to
con nuetotheEventDriverstab.

OntheEventDriverstab(picturedbelow),youmayselectyourdesiredeventdrivers.Thefeatures
extractedfromeachdocumentwilldependontheeventdriverschosen.Selec ngaeventdriver(brown
arrow)willdisplayitscorrespondingdescrip on(greenarrow).

Someeventdriversmayrequirespecificparameters,suchasCharacterGramsinwhichyoumustchoosea
numberforNfromadropdownmenu.TosettheParameters,clickonthedropdownbox(redarrow)to
changeNtothedesiredparameter.Whenyouhavefinishedselec ngeventdrivers(andparametersif
applicable),clickonNext(purplearrow)tocon nuetotheEventCullingtab.

OntheEventCullingtab(picturedbelow),youmaychoosewhetheryouwanttoanalyzeonlythemost
frequentevents(greenarrow),onlytheleastcommonevents(bluearrow),oronlythoseeventswhich
appearinallofthedocuments(redarrow).IfyouselectMostCommonEvents,thenanyuncommon
eventswillbeeliminatedfromthedocumentspriortoanalysis.
ForLeastCommonEventsandMostCommonEventsyoumaysettheparameters(N)toanynumber
ofyourchoice.TosettheParameters,clickonthedropdownbox(pinkarrow)tochangeNtothe
desiredparameterbyeithertypingthenumberorchoosingavaluefromthedropdownmenu.Youdonot
havetosetParametersfortheXtremeCuller.
Please Note: Event culling order maers if you choose more than one event culler.

Please Note: Event cullers are oponal so you do not have to make a selecon unless desired.
Onceyouhavemadeyoureventcullerselec on(s)andarereadytomoveon,clickonNext(purple
arrow)tocon nuetotheAnalysisMethodstab.

OntheAnalysisMethodstab(picturedbelow),youwillselectananalysismethodtoanalyzeyour
documents.
Please Note: If you choose the FrequencyCentroidDriveror NearestNeighborDriver, you will have to
select a DistanceFunc on.You do not have to choose a distance funcon for the other analysis methods.
Intheexamplebelow,NearestNeighborDriver(bluearrow)isselectedwithCosineDistanceasthe
DistanceFunc on(redarrow).

A erchoosingananalysismethod,clickonNext(purplearrow)tocon nuetotheReview&Processtab.

OntheReview&Processtab(picturedbelow),youmayreviewalloftheselec onsyouvemadefromthe
previoustabs.Ifyoudliketomakeanychanges,youmayclickonthetabyouwishtomakechangesto
(bluearrow),oryoumayclickonthegreenHeadings(brownarrow)whichwilltakeyoubacktothe
correspondingtab.

Ifamistakehasbeenmadeonanyofthetabs,theheadingwillberedinsteadofgreentodrawyour
a en ontotheerror(s).Intheexamplebelow,theEventDriverheadingisredbecausenoEventDrivers
wereselected(redarrow).

Onceyouhaveverifiedthatalloftheselec onsarecorrectandyouarereadytoobtainyourresults,click
onProcess(purplearrow).

Anewwindowwillopenwiththeresults.Inthiscase,theprogramdeterminedthatAuthor10isthemost
likelyauthorforthedocumentinques on(redarrow).
