Lane Head Nursery School News
Curriculum Corner
This week we will be using our crocodile fingers to develop pencil control. Your
children are working hard to learn to Squiggle Whilst they Wiggle. Heres a
reminder of what each squiggle looks like and how they link to letter formation.
Squiggle 1:
Up and Down (This will help form the letters: i l t u)
Squiggle 2:
Circles-
(This will help form the letters: c o a d )
Squiggle 3:
Humps -
- over hump
- under hump
(This will help form the letters: n m h r b)
Squiggle 4:
Snail Shells (This will help from the letters: k p )
Squiggle 5:
Twist (This will help form the letters: g q e )
Squiggle 6:
Lazy 8 -
(This will help form the letters: j y f s )
Squiggle 7:
Straight lines (This will help form the letters: v w x z )
Try this technique at home and see if your
child can move their imaginary squiggle pens
up and down and round and round to their
favourite songs!
A Rocket to the Moon!
The children have really enjoyed our
Treasured Text Whatever Next by Jill
Murphy. Im sure youve seen the many space
rockets that keep landing in the Messy Room
modelling area! This week your children will be
using full sentence stems to retell the story
with a friend.
We will be using our problem solving skills to
see how many children we can fit into
different sized rocket boxes. Maybe try this
at home with different sized cardboard boxes,
asking the question, How many cuddly toys do
you think will fit inside this box? Then test
your ideas out!
WOW of the week!
On Friday we will be taking a trip to the moon
to have a picnic with Teddy. We will be making
astronaut food bags to take with us. Please
read the notice board for potential allergies
and let your childs Group Leader know before
Friday!
Attendance: The best attending morning
group was Orange and the best attending
afternoon group was Red.
The attendance target is 96.1 %
The attendance achieved last week was
90.15 %.

Celebration Slot
This week our celebration slot goes to YOU! A huge thank you for
attending out Maths curriculum workshops last week. Once again, it
was really well supported and there was lots of positive feedback. If
you havent already completed the class evaluation form, can I please
ask you to do this and pop it into the school office as we are always
looking at ways to improve and develop our practice. If you werent able to attend, your
childs class teacher will give you the information at the parents evening next week. Please
see below for further details.
Curriculum Corner
Chinese New year celebrations are beginning early in Reception this
week and I am sure the children will have lots of fun exploring the
traditions of this special event.
In Literacy, the children are looking more closely at the behaviour of Goldilocks so this should
open up some interesting debates and in Maths, the children will be using a range of practical
resources to explore subtraction. What a busy week!
In Key Stage One, the children will be taking one giant leap for
Mankind... as they learn about the life of Neil Armstrong and what
it was like to be an astronaut. The treasured text of the week is
One Giant Leap by Don Brown.
Whats coming up...
Next week on Wednesday and Thursday evening, we will be holding the second of our Parent
Keeping in touch meetings. Please look out for the signing in sheets which will go up in our
entrance hall on Tuesday.
Please note that due to church commitments, our Education Sunday celebration will now take
place on Sunday 20th March instead of 6th March. If possible, please keep this Sunday free
and come and join us in Rosedale school hall for a special school and church joint celebration.
And finally -Well done to Tyler-James Shorthouse in Sunrays,
who was the winner of our Census day raffle. He won a special
lunch invitation and chose three of his friends to share in his
treat.
The children enjoyed being waited upon and spending
time with myself and all the teachers in the staffroom.
Attendance: Our attendance is currently standing at 96.7 %.
We are achieving our attendance target of 96.1 %.
Lets see if we can push the figures higher this coming week. Well done!
