More for this week:
Remember Homework calendars are not to be turned in until the last Friday of the month. If your child is one who has finished their calendar..then work more on sight words and reading and answering questions about their reader that they are getting each week in their folders. Remember the goal is to read their book atleast 3 times per week. Please be sure the books are being kept in your childs folderswe use these at school too.
We will begin our Formal Writing Assessments for the first 9 weeks this week. Yes your child gets assessed on writing in Kindergarten. My how Kindergarten has changed. I am attaching the rubric so that you can see what type of writing we will be looking for in Kindergarten. At this time of the year our expectation is using pictures, labels, and some words (more like beginning sounds of words) As you can see on the rubric expectations will change as the year progresses. We are trying to get all students to the Proficient Level by the end of Kindergarten
From the Teachers Desk: Reminders !

I am also sending home a mini word wall with your child. Please keep this in the back of the folder and practice words with your child that we have covered in class. Adding words goes quickly and the more you practice each week the better readers your child will be. Students who still need help on letters and stating the alphabet need to be practicing daily. Identification of letters is so important.
Be sure to mark your calendar for October the 9th and 10thboth of these days are designated for Parent Teacher ConferencesConferences will be after school and through-out the evening. Students with siblings at Bridgeport get the first priority for scheduling times- we have to coordinate times with the siblings teacher(s)
