Coach Ds Battlin Bears seeded 9th in NAIA Tourney

32 teams, six days, one champion. The 77Th Annual Buffalo Funds-NAIA Division I Mens Basketball National Championship will be held March 19-25 in the Municipal Auditorium located in Kansas City, Missouri. The Rocky Mountain Battlin Bears, winners of the Frontier Conference, received a #9 seed in the 32-team bracket and will play their first-round game on Wednesday morning, March 19th. The Battlin Bears (23-7) will be facing Cumberlands, Kentucky (1911) at 9:45 a.m. Mountain Standard Time. In 2008-2009, RMC finished with a 28-9 record and were the NAIA Division I National Champions. The Battlin Bears won five games in seven days en route to the title, capped with a 77-61 win over Columbia College (MO). Coach Bill Dreikosen, who graduated from Hinsdale, was named NAIA National Coach of the Year in 2009. The 2009 championship was the first in mens basketball by any team from the Frontier Conference in the history of the league. This is Rockys second straight trip to National and eighth appearance overall; last year they lost their opener to #2 seeded Lindsey Wilson 84-79 which would go on to place 2nd. With the exception of the five games won in taking home the national title, the Battlin Bears havent won any other opening round games. Frontiers Montana State Northern also makes a second straight appearance (their eighth overall) with an at-large berth. Last year the Lights were also lights out in the first round, getting dumped by Evangel, Missouri, 64-54. MSUNortherns overall record on the national stage is 3-7. The Lights (23-8) will be facing #10 Freed Hardeman, Tennessee (27-5) on Thursday, March 20th at 9:45 a.m. Westminster, Utah (19-12), the team Rocky beat for the Frontier

They will be playing #11 Benedictine, Kansas (22-8) at 6:00 p.m. on March 19th. The village of Chipwa as seen from the boat. by TID, BID, QID, etc. God sure knows how to put all the pieces in our lives together for His purposes! Fishing is the mainstay of life on Lake Tanganyika. When I was there for two weeks, I learned some interesting facts about fishing. One type of fish that is very popular in Zambia is called capenta. They are like little minnows caught and then fried and eaten with nshima. One of the methods the fishermen use to get these capenta to come to the surface to be caught in the nets is by going out at night with lanterns. It is quite a sight to see the lake alight with lanterns reflecting across the water.

Todays front page photo of a boat on Lake Tanganyika depicts the essential travel service to and from the village of Chipwa located in Zambia. Lake Tanganyika is an African Great Lake. It is estimated to be the second largest freshwater lake in the world by volume, and the second deepest (maximum depth of 4,820 ft), in both cases, after only Lake Baikal in Siberia;it is also the worlds longest freshwater lake (420 miles and covers 12,700 square miles). Shirley Ann Turner (above with the big smile) got to be the pharmacist in Chipwa, thus the boat rides. Shirley writes of her experience: Akachelo, akukaba, chungulomorning, midday, evening. I never thought I would learn Lungu phrases in Zambia, since I didnt even know that was a language when I arrived! Since I was designated to pass out the medicine according to the doctors prescription, I became fluent in words used in directions for taking medicine! It sure was helpful that I was med trained in Virginia so I knew what the Dr. meant
