day, October 22,

That’s no
Brooke Trout!
And now for part 2 of
the chinook salmon
snagging season on Fort
Peck Reservoir, Brooke
MacDonald tied into this one
last night at the marina bay.
Brooke and JD Page both
caught a pair, all four of them
being just under 15 pounds.
And now for a little correction
and update from Tuesday’s
Buzz, brought to our attention
by avid angler and paddle
fishing buddy Garrett Morken:
the Montana state record
chinook salmon in the books
was reeled in by Jim Fauth
of Malta on August 9th, 2024,
tipping the certified scale at
32.62 pounds (38 inches).
The previous Chinook salmon
record was set in 2020 with a
32.05-pounder. Some of us
walleye anglers don’t give a
hoot about these chinooks,
but it brings excitement to
local anglers and beyond,
many from out of state. And
as you can see by Brooke’s
bright eyes and beaming
smile, JD and she were
having a hoot of a time last
night! Nice catch!

Feds direct states to stop

SNAP food assistance
Montanans who use SNAP, the Supplemental
Nutrition Assistance Program, may not receive the
benefit in November.
A message to SNAP clients on the Montana
Department of Public Health and Human Services
website said the following on Tuesday:
“As a result of the ongoing federal government
shutdown, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food
and Nutrition Service has directed states to stop the
issuance of SNAP benefits for the month of November
until further notice.”
It said SNAP clients may not receive the benefits
even if they are already authorized to receive them, and

What a coincidence
While the bar patron savored a Pendleton’s whiskey
on the rocks, an attractive women sat down next to him.
The bartender served her a glass of orange juice, and the
man turned to her and said, “This is a special day. I’m
celebrating.”
“I’m celebrating, too,” she replied, clinking glasses
with him.
“What are you celebrating?” he asked.
“For years I’ve been trying to have a child,”
she answered, “Today my gynecologist told me I’m
pregnant!”
“Congratulations!” the man said, lifting his glass.
“As it happens, I’m a chicken farmer, and for years all
my hens were infertile. But today they’re finally fertile.”
“How did it happen?” the pregnant gal asked.
“I switched roosters,” was chicken farmer’s
explanation.
“What a coincidence,” she said, smiling.
