Memos
Memos are written messages used by people within an organization. They are sometimes called interoffice memos. Memos have four heading lines and a body. The paragraphs in a memo are called the body.

Memo
The memo heading lines tell the:

Name of the person to whom the memo is written Name of the person who is writing the memo Date the memo is written Subject of the memo

A memo may contain these parts after the body:


Reference initials Enclosure note Attachment note Copy Note

Memo
(RI) Reference initials are the initials of the person who keys the memo
RI are not used if the writer keys the memo

An enclosure note or attachment note tells the reader that other material is enclosed with or attached to the memo A copy note tells the reader that one or more persons will receive a copy of the memo

How to set a tab


Lesson 86
Tabs are set locations at which text can be placed.

By default tabs are set every one-half inch on the Ruler


Tabs can be set to align text at the left, right, center, or a decimal point Decimal tabs are often used to align numbers in a column.

How to set a tab


Start Word. After opening a new document. Click on the Page Layout tab. Then click on the arrow in the bottom right corner of the Paragraph box.

A dialogue box will appear and click on the Tabs button at the bottom of the box.

The Tabs dialogue box will appear. You will use this box to set tabs to align parts of your document.

How to set a margin


Lesson 86
The default top and bottom margins are 1 inch.

The default left and right margins are 1.25 inches.


The left and right margins are indicated on the Ruler by the left and right margin markers above the document

Click the Layout tab. You can set the margins for your document.

Instructions: Create a memo for the company you chose last week. Use the company name you gave me. Set a 2.5 inch top margin Side margin will be 1 inch (the default size)-You do not have to set this Set a left tab at 1 inch Font style: Arial Font size: 12

Please include: All of the memo headings we discussed The body of the memo Enclosure note Reference initials Copy note *Remember memos are written messages used by people within an organization. Your memo can be about anything that pertains to your company.
