Hobbing, ‘on the other hand, is not tied to specific helix angles, either for economic or accuracy reasons, since any angle ‘can be generated economically and accurately by using appropriate differential change gears. ‘The standardization of the helix angles has, therefore, been based on the constraints of the generating-shaping method: The relationship between helix angle, normal module ‘mq, number of cutter pinion teoth zg and lead pz of the helical guidance is given by: Mn +20 Ov peal By adopting numbers of cutter pinion teeth related on the one hand like the modules in the individual module groups (1 — 2— 4~ 8) and on the other hand like the leads (12 ~ 8 ~ 6 ~ 4 ~ 3~ 2), sin values with a gra dation of 0.025 min min (referred to the smallest module of the multi-module groups) are obtained which fulfil the following conditions: 1, For each module group a sufficiently closely graded helix angle series is obtained. See Tables 2 and 3 in DIN 3978. ‘The helix anglas of Series 1 according to Table 2 are to be given preference because they have received a denser allocation of cutter pinion tooth numbers. The helix angles of Series 2 represent intermediate values of Series 1 and thus allow a closer gradation of helix angles, 2. Over a broad range there are several numbers of cutter pinion teeth available for each helix angle, so that a suitable number of cutter pinion teeth can be selected also for cutting internal gears. 3. For each module group the same numbers of cutter pinion teeth apply. For non-listed modules and for DP values appropriate helix angle series are to be formed whilst retaining the ‘numbers of cutter pinion teeth and the leads on the basis Of the relationship explained above, For modules for special purposes suitable helix angle series are stated in Tables 4 ang 5. In a similar manner to Table 1 these mod ules also can be supplemented to form module groups for a helix angle system, but only by adding non-stand- ardized modules. Its, therefore, recommended to use ‘these modules in all cases in which non-standard modules are unavoidable. The helix angles of Table 4 are to be given preference over those of Table 5 since they have allocated to them @ ddonser array of cutter pinion tooth numbers, The helix angles of Series 4 (Table 6) represent the intermediate values of Series 3 (Table 4) and thus allow a closer gra dation of helix angles If, for whatever reason, steps intermediate to the stand- ardized helix angles of Tables 2 and 5 are needed, they can be obtained by using intermediate non-standardized cutter pinion tooth numbers. In any case, however, the standard helical guides are to be adopted for this pur- pose, ‘The relationship between helix angle, cutter pinion refer- ence diameter end lead of helical guide is shown in the illustration below. With the aid of this diagram itis pos- sible quickly to determine for a desired helix angle the cutter pinion reference diameters corresponding to the various leads, The exact values of the helix angle and. the cutter pinion tooth number are to be taken from the relevant tables of this Standard for the standardized modules. use ”| #9 «160 4° ee t —240 30° LI = Bs 5 | 320 z }- 480 ™ [<4 . | <<] i 5° ~~ 960 WAM | 0 40 80 120 mm 160 Cutter pinion reference diameter dg —e Helix angle f as a function of cutter pinion lead pao and reference diameter do
