Luis E. Dettin, B.S., M.S., Ph.D., became a scientific review officer (SRO) in 2020. He serves as both a team lead for the branch and the SRO for the Obstetrics and Maternal-Fetal Biology (CHHD-B) Study Section. He also runs Special Emphasis Panel meetings. His research expertise includes cell biology, biology of reproduction, cancer biology, and neurosciences.
From 2000 until 2008, Dr. Dettin worked at Georgetown University, where he conducted research related to biology of reproduction, stem cells, cancer, and neurobiology. He also managed the histopathology and tissue bank, the microscopy core, and the electron microscopy core at the same institution. In 2009, Dr. Dettin joined the Center for Scientific Review at NIH, initially as a contractor SRO, where he oversaw special emphasis panels for several integrated review groups. After becoming a federal employee in 2016, Dr. Dettin was assigned the Prokaryotic Cell and Molecular Biology Study Section within the Genes, Genomics and Genetics Integrated Review Group.
Dr. Dettin holds a bachelor's degree in education, a master’s degree in biology, and a doctoral degree in cell biology. He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and presented at national and international conferences.
