Automakers Emphasize Something For Everyone

After several years of going “all in” for electric vehicles, some automakers are re-evaluating both their vehicle lineups and messaging. Hybrid vehicles have emerged as the flexible solution offering the best of both worlds — a greener alternative with increased range without the need to worry about charging. 

California still leads the country in terms of EV adoption so the Los Angeles Auto Show is the perfect place to examine what is shifting the consumer psyche.

At this conference we will consider:

  • What leads a consumer to make the leap away from a gas-powered vehicle and how can automakers support the shift?
  • How should automakers continue to accommodate consumers who are fully committed to only driving gas vehicles and what are some best practices for educating consumers on options?
  • What are the media channel implications for more diversified messaging?
  • As channels continue to fragment, what are new ways to engage consumers with more personalized appeals?

Keynote Q&A: Nissan Reveals Plans to Win Over Buyers
Since 2020, new car prices have risen by 30% which is making buying a new vehicle prohibitive to many. To meet those consumers, Vinay Shahani has put together the "six under $30K" campaign combining its six least expensive vehicles for a full-court marketing push on regional TV spots and social media. Shahani, who rejoined the automaker in January and is responsible for all sales and marketing activities for the Nissan brand in the U.S. He also has oversight of INFINITI Americas. He has 20 years of varied automotive industry experience ranging from product planner at Ford Motor Company to vice president and marketing lead at the North American offices of the Volkswagen, Toyota and Lexus brands.

Q&A: Rivian Brand Finds Its Niche In Design, Intuition

Four years in the making, Rivian recently opened its first "rest stop of the future" in Yosemite National Park. What began as a brainstorming session about the future of road trips resulted in a truly differentiated architectural typology that becomes the physical manifestation of the brand and its mission. Denise Cherry took over as VP of marketing in August after stints as VP experience deisgn and VP design and retail development. Design is at the core of Rivian's brand distinction and includes everything unique features that address buyer wants and needs like pet comfort settings and camp mode.

She is responsible for the company’s North American marketing, media and analytics efforts in support of the automotive company’s brand portfolio, which includes Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, FIAT, Jeep® and Ram. As part of a department restructure aligned with Register's new role, the company has made the strategic decision to combine marketing, social and digital media, website, analytics and paid media operations, allowing for centralized decision-making in support of a results-driven culture.

Ford is aiming to make electric vehicles more accessible to consumer with the Ford Power Promise program, which includes a complimentary Ford home charger and complimentary standard home installation for that charger at the customer's home. The industry-first program will encompass home charging, on the road charging, 24/7 live support and a battery warranty that guarantees the battery for 8 years or 100k miles. O'Connor, who rejoined Ford in January, will share the automaker's goals for the program.
