The Kabi Kabi Peoples Aboriginal Corporation has been established with a view to being nominated by the Native Title Holders to be the prescribed body corporate under the Native Title Act for the Kabi Kabi First Nation Peoples Claim. Following a positive determination of native title by the Federal Court of Australia, the nominated corporation will be granted RNTBC (registered native title body corporate) status. Our purpose is to build on native title rights and interests to strengthen cultural knowledge, economic opportunity and our authority as Traditional Owners on Country.
The Kabi Kabi First Nation Traditional Owner’s native title determination application (Kabi Kabi claim) was filed on 31 May 2013. Our claim area covers over 11,500 km2 of traditional country up along the Sunshine Coast from north of Brisbane to the Gregory and Isaac Rivers south of Bundaberg. Our land takes in the eastern part of the coastal ranges including the volcanic Glasshouse Mountains and the great Mary River valley which flows from the Conondale Ranges to the sea near Maryborough.
