Like others have said, we've had final space and inside job cancelled with quite high ratings and while I'm watching Mulligan I'm just wondering what was going through the mind of the person who green lit this.
So far it's a four star from me, 4 episodes in and it's just a bit boring. It's a show that leans heavily on stereotypes as the basis of every joke, every situation is built upon the stereotype rather than having a funny situation.
Just be careful about getting invested, even if you like this show, it's a low-ish rated show and if they are cancelling highly rated shows then what chance does this have.

This is yet another Netflix adult cartoon comedy that tries to deliver comedy but falls flat on its face with juvenile simplistic humour. The premise itself about an alien apocalypse and survivors trying to make the most of a difficult situation just isn't particularly exciting in itself. The show starts off on a very weak footing. There's really nothing groundbreaking about this series and I could barely get through the first episode, though I did persevere. It's such a shame, especially given the presence of Hollywood heavyweights like Tina Fey. It's a real shame, as I do like the adult cartoon content that Netflix tends to come out with, but there's been notable flops and this is likely to be added to the pile.

Which is why I rated it a 6 a bare standard for finding something worth finishing. The concept is cool, aliens wipe out most of humanity and those that lived have to figure out how to run society again. The execution is very lame, but I like a little drama to spice up my comedy's and you will find none of that here. The two female leads and the alien seem like the only characters worth watching. There isn't much to really see here as most of the show is just a parade of letdowns. I think the best episode was with the false prophet, or not so false. The last surviving senator was funny at times as well. Just give this a pass and watch inside job if you want something close to this.
They canceled Inside Job, Final Space, Dead end paranormal Park and more yet THIS gets a season.
They really just are not trying any more are they, I mean I sat there and watched it but didn't laugh, chuckle or even smirk at ANY of these so called jokes... it feels weird to sit there staring at your tv watching what is labeled a comedy and not feeling anything remotely comedic
It's like they took a bunch of youtube vids buzz words/topics, toilet/jock humor and chucked it at the writers to try and shoehorn in as much as they could and just vomited it onto the screen.
Pretty soon we'll catch right up to Idiocracy and have movies and shows just like theirs
Just watch this dumpster fire get a second or third season though,,, Hopefully it dies like Hoops or Q-Force, gods those were awful.

Terrible im trying my hardest to get through this show and ive ... lightly chuckled a few times. The character design and animation is horrible trash. I have no idea why they cancelled inside Job to funnel money into this way weaker, far less enjoyable clone. Usually im a huge fan of Robert Carlock and Tina Fey's work but this is just terrible. I dont know why i need to use 600 characters on IMDB now to literally just tell you all to not watch this, maybe send an email to netflix tellin them this show is irredeemably terrible and renew inside Job. Or make a new tv show based on pre existing stuff cause i guess thats a thing.

This show is a cheap rip off of inside job but much lazier and none of the charm. Jokes are attempting an American Dad level of maturity without the likeable characters or witty social commentary. Just truly odd and embarrassing that they would release this so soon after canceling Inside Job an apt and hilarious social commentary that made all the jokes Mulligan attempts, but well. The animation feels pretty lackadaisical and inconsistent. Each character trope feels tired and like there are much better examples throughout even Netflix's offerings. We have seen the dumb bro who lucks into a great life, the hot ditz with a heart of gold, the too smart, overwhelmed lady who hates that nobody values her brains etc. None of the characters are much more than their tropes. This is just another example of Netflix not understanding what the fans want.

Animation quality and style resembles many of the netflix animation sitcoms (Hoops, inside job, etc)
The voice castings were excellent. Love the characters and their characterisations. Its funny at the same time very informative. Some relatable moments, very engaging although its probably inappropriate for small children - labelled PG. Great representation of people of colors but lacks LGBTQ+ representation. Several referrences of other movies, politics, pop cultures, etc.
Huge fan of the funny original songs, catchy and very memorable. Great scores and cover choices. Nothing much in the world building and storyline were just basic but the dialogues and writtings were outstanding.
Highly recommended.

This is like Independence Day meets Idiocracy.
I started watching it, and halfway through the first episode I had to quit. I went on to see old Malcom in the Middle episodes so I could laugh.
I know Mulligan had jokes, they are pretty obvious. But they're awful. I laughed only once. For the rest, I was only able to acknowledge the jokes.
I feel bad for not completing the episode, I wanted to give it a chance, maybe it is not comedy and I am not understanding it?
Anyway, I didn't like it, but it's not that I don't get the jokes, they're there, they're just not funny. The main character is annoying right from the start, including his voice, and the rest add nothing.

I've just finished watching the season and was pleasantly surprised by the end.
Initially I was unsure whether to watch it after reading a lot of these reviews and the after the first couple of episodes I sort of saw where they were coming from (like I said in the title, it's not as good as inside Job but we're not here to compare it to that).
For an adult animated comedy it does what it needs/should do. The episodes are short (20-25 minutes) and it's an easy watch. A few pop culture references thrown in and some stereotypical jibes.
Granted, it's not going to win an Oscar with the writing but is that what you want when watching a 20 minute animation?

The reason I write this is because the premise of the show- a post apocalyptic world- was interesting and promising, but starting to watch the show, and I couldn't get past the first two episodes because the jokes were not fresh, it look like they were taken of and old Reddit Post. There is also little to no effort in the writing of the show, like it was a chat GPT script. I would also like to address my issue with Netflix, it needs to stop experimenting, and cancelling its actual good animations with amazing writing and great premise after one season while bringing out new ones quickly, when it should be working hard on one.

First off, no this is not a 10 star show, but it sure as heck isn't a sub-5! It's a solid 6.5-8 depending on the episode. Overall it's very funny! I'm guessing most of the bad reviews are due to a certain Winnie the Pooh comparison and the fact that it leans progressive. If you're a typical fan of the main actors you'll likely enjoy this. It's not complicated, it's fairly easy watching. To all those who are somehow offended by this show - try meditation and self reflection. Holy crap I can't believe how bad these reviews are in comparison to how decent the show is. So seriously, don't let the reviews turn you off.
If you look at my other reviews you may see I'm on a mission to give shows/movies accurate ratings. I always try to give a somewhat accurate rating in my review, but I just hate people brigading shows because they have nothing better to do than denounce something they're not the target audience for. Anyways, I'm just over half way through and I'm enjoying it and disappointed in myself for initially listening to these D-list reviews.

They really do green light anything anyone comes up with. I mean netflix has put out some real winners like Bojack horseman, Big mouth its spin off Human resources, F is for family, Disenchantment. Love sex and robots. I dont watch Anime so wont go into those. So netflix has a track history, even Agent Elvis, had its moments. This outing by Netflix should quickly disappear and never be seen again. It is no way funny at all, at any point, end stop. And right there you don't need to go into the voice acting or anything else it just so horribly written and a complete waste of a good concept that it has NO excuse. I would rather get a second season of Hoops (which wasn't that good) then to ever sit through another episode of this show. I realized that what this reminded me of what the new series on HBO "Fired on Mars" unfunny, unwatchable, and a waste of good actors.
Mulligan is utter trash - cheap humor, boring, no depth at all and the potential of the backstory was not used in any captivating way. After the pilot I was skeptical, but thought: "maybe there will be a nice twist to it". But nothing - instead of using the backstory of a rebuilding world creatively as a breeding ground for true conflicts and hurdles to design a great story, stories which can only be told within an animated series, it was just used for toilet humor and cheap nonsense.
Truly great shows like Final Space & Inside Job are cancelled for god knows what reasons, for this? At this point, where amazing shows are gone and only cheap and superficial trash is offered, alongside all the other negative Netflix decisions, I am rethinking my subscription.

This is the story of what happens when alien bug people almost take over the earth. Mulligan saves the day and is chosen to be the president. Senator Lamarr is the Senate and the VP. As I watched the first episode I thought it was a pretty decent parody of the Independence Day movies with the random musical numbers from the Family Guy thrown in for spice. The credits were rolling at the end and I noticed Dana Carvey's name pop up just as it switched to episode two. I figured out he is the voice of Senator Cartwright Lamarr. The senator seems like Church Lady doing her impression of Richard Nixon doing his impression of Donald Trump Jr. I finished the episode and read the credits. I was surprised to see that Tina Fey from SNL, Ronny Chieng, Sam Richardson, and Ayo Edebiri from Comedy Central, Phil Lamarr from Madd TV, Kevin Michael Richardson from The Cleveland Show, Chrissey Teigen the super model and Harry Potter alum Daniel Rattcliff are also lending their voices to these characters. The stories got funnier as the season progressed but that may be because I'm a baby boomer so I remember the nuclear fire drills we used to love.

This show is undeservingly underrated here on imdb and it's such a shame. It's a good show. Sure, not on Bojack Horseman level, but still good. I thought it would get canceled after only one season because of the bad rating, but I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that they had released a second season.
The show is about Washington D. C after it and the whole USA (or world?) was severely attacked by aliens. The show follows the surviving citizens (and one stranded alien) on their quest to build up a decently functioning society again..
Give it a chance, despite the bad reviews.. Maybe you'll actually enjoy it?

This show is quite fascinating
You are supposed to watch it as a comedy show but I'm not sure if they are meant to be funny to teenagers or adults. Anyway, across the two seasons that I watched on Netflix (amazing French dub btw), I think I genuinely laughed 3 to 4 days. Which leads me to what kept me watching ! Well, it was the story, basically. A chill story, that doesn't take itself too seriously (since it's supposed to be a comedy show), that tells the aftermath of the an alien invasion that almost obliterated the whole civilization/planet. The plots are very basic but a few characters are interesting to follow. I suggest you give it a shot and try to enjoy it.

Painfully bad. The dialog is juvenile and unoriginal. The voice-overs are lazy or over the top. Boring or irritating. How do these boorish moronic "adult cartoons" keep getting produced. To have so many decent actors involved in this steaming pile of waste of time is remarkable. This is the cartoon equivalent of seeing the same person do the pull my finger joke for the 1,000th time. Who green lights this garbage and profits from it's creation?? It's baffling that the majority of cartoons are cookie cutter terrible. Even the ones that make it more than a season do so because the bar is so low. Can some decent artists please collaborate with the Ace Vane, Kyle Dunnigan and (Cody Johnston) Some More News types and produce some fresh, funny, educational thought provoking brain candy??

Premise ridiculous for comedy, and adult animation.
There's no clever jokes here at all.
Lame pop culture references.
Yes the West has always been decadent for the most part on the Down Low...thanks to non-"social media" and technology dependency...and simply electricity; Earth dependency on 1200 random idiots left on earth doesn't work.
The comedy is so bad it's not comedy...by the third episode your upset that the aliens weren't successful.
How is a a bad song mocking reading books funny?
The sole survivor in Congress is a relic from the days that over half the house were members of the KKK?
I can only say truly this wouldn't be funny at all over the last 40 years.
I will reiterate its not surprising that Netflix put out a garbage program...that's 90% of their business model.
The surprise is my review headline- in the past those comics were considered talented. Everyone who worked on the dialogue and animation seem to have been on drugs making this garbage.

This show is one of the worst animated shows I've ever attempted to watch. There's not much else I can say. Once they did the stupid "Okurrr" in episode 1 to reference the terrible rapper Cardi B, I was out. Totally unfunny, try-hard, terrible writing, terrible concept (stupid guy becomes president.)
How in the world do shows like this keep getting greenlit? Netflix, please let me create animated comedy. You're working with the wrong people. Whoever made Mulligan should be banned from Hollywood. And honestly, whoever said "yeah we should give this show a try" should also be fired and banned!!

It seems like Netflix and TV in general are no longer capable, or permitted to make actual comedy. Every single joke, villain, or idiotic character is always at the expense of the only race it's acceptable to look down upon. It's really odd that this was green lit and it's disappointing coming from Tina Fey. If you have identity issues or self hatred leave it at that. I can't even sit on a couch and watch TV without being lectured to. There's no shot this gets a second season. The only reason this gets a 2 and not a 1 is because I think I guy I went to HS with is an animator for it. Find a new and fresh idea. And people from the north really need to quit looking down on people from the south. It seems like they've had the last few years figured out a whole lot better than us up north.
The show is full of stereotypes rather than funny jokes. I reached Episode 4 and i had enough. Although i watched other shows this is the worst show i saw on netflix along side Q-force, Paradise PD and. Big Mouth.
Why cant Netflix go back and re-visit their biggest like: Bojack Horseman, Archer, Midnight Gospel,...etc
Even Hoops i enjoyed and laughed hard while watching it.
Its only about jokes, characters are forgettable and are not uniquely designed and you cant distinguish the main cast from the NPCs of the show. Even their background stories are copied and pastes from other similar shows
The only good thing about the I would say is the voice acting, these talents should have been utilized in better script.

This show had me laughing from the beginning of episode one. The voices are great (especially Dana Carvey as Senator Cartwright LaMarr) and the writing is excellent. It's got all the feel of the other Tina Fey/Robert Carlock collaborations- 30 Rock, Kimmy Schmidt etc- so if you're a fan of those shows, this will hit with you right away (though Fey didn't write for this one).
And while there's nothing here that's groundbreaking compared to those previous shows, the post-apocalyptic setting allows the writers to lean into the more absurd side of their humor, which I loved.
On a final note, it seems like a lot of reviewers are trashing this show because Netflix cancelled other shows they like. I get that frustration, but giving this show a bad review because you're mad at Netflix doesn't help people who are looking at IMDB to find something good to watch. If you're reading this review, don't let the average scare you away from giving it a shot. This show is really good and definitely deserves another season (or two, three....).
