  • Wildfire Prevention

Wildfire activity has picked up across north and central Georgia over the past couple of weeks, and conditions remain dry. As you enjoy your time on the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest, a few small choices can make a big difference in preventing human-caused fires.

    • Keep campfires small, attended, and fully out before you leave. If it’s too hot to touch, it’s too hot to leave.

    • Avoid parking or idling vehicles on tall, dry grass—hot exhaust systems can ignite vegetation.

    • Secure trailer chains to prevent dragging and sparks along roadways.

    • Never burn debris on or near national forest land.

    • Dispose of cigarettes and matches responsibly—never toss them on the ground or out a vehicle window.
