About this audiobook

When Malena Sevilla's tidy, carefully planned world collapses following her father’s mysterious suicide, she finds a letter--signed with an “A”--that reveals that her mother, who she thought dead, is very much alive in San Isidro, a quaint town tucked in the Andes Mountains. Intent on meeting her, Malena arrives at Alameda Street and meets four sisters who couldn’t be more different from one another, but who share one thing in common: all of their names begin with an A. To avoid a scandal, Malena assumes another woman’s identity and enters their home to discover the truth. Could her mother be Amanda, the iconoclastic widow who opens the first tango nightclub in a conservative town? Ana, the ideal housewife with a less-than-ideal past? Abigail, the sickly sister in love with a forbidden man? Or Alejandra, the artistic introvert scarred by her cousin’s murder? But living a lie will bring Malena additional problems, such as falling for the wrong man and loving a family she may lose when they learn of her deceit. Worse, her arrival threatens to expose long-buried secrets and a truth that may wreck her life forever. Set in 1960s Ecuador, The Sisters of Alameda Street is a sweeping story of how one woman’s search for the truth of her identity forces a family to confront their own past.

The characters are so beautifully drawn that one identifies easily with each one. The thread of the story is carefully stitched and one's interest does not waiver. Thank you for a thoroughly sound story.

This is a quite complicated story. So wonderful how the siblings fend for and loved each other through all their trials and tribulations.

Wonderful book. The story unravels bit by bit across decades and many characters' perspectives. It was a bit confusing at times to get all the characters straight but well worth the effort

A bit too confusing with all the characters. Couldn't finish because the narrator wasn't good either.

Complicated family relationships, spurned loves, and thwarted lives.
An interesting story of a family and their secrets.
I enjoyed the story, the characters, and the touch of tango.
With our secrets and silly tabus, upholding outdated and hurtful traditions usually leads to never-ending heartbreak.

This was way too convoluted a story. In the end, it seems like every single character had some crazy backstory. It just was a bit exhausting to follow and I didn’t find the ending that satisfying.

The story has many twists and turns! And everywhere there are tiny details that are part of Ecuadorian culture: humitas and the New Years Eve activities for two examples. The readers pacing was great.

It was full of twists and turns, some a little convoluted, but it was just like a telenovela, lots of secrets and lies.
I really enjoyed knowing the Platas sisters, very different from one another, all strong females. The main question about who Malena's mother was is kept a mystery practically until the end and I like a little mystery.
I am from Argentina and my father loves tango, so the mention of the tangos I grew up listening to was a plus.

Beautiful but sad story. It works out in the end but a lot of lost opportunities to be happy. Also a lot of characters to keep track of, especially on audio book.

Lots of characters, lots of stories of relationships and marriages. The plot was interesting. Only in the end I found out what really happened. It was unexpected. It was nice to hear that some people did have happy ending. There were some who suffered too. It felt like watching a drama TV show. It was a bit hard to remember all the characters. Overall I liked it but it’s a bit sad. Narrator is great.
