ECS paywall is down October 21-27, 2024

In celebration of International Open Access Week, The Electrochemical Society (ECS) is pleased to announce that from October 21-27, 2024, we will remove the paywall from all our subscription content. This special initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to making the latest advances in electrochemical and solid state science accessible to researchers, educators, and professionals around the world.

Open Access Week 2024

International Open Access Week is a global event that promotes unrestricted access to research and scholarly work, fostering a more equitable system of knowledge sharing. This year’s theme, “Community Over Commercialization,” emphasizes the importance of prioritizing open access initiatives that serve the broader scientific community and contribute to the collective progress of knowledge. At ECS, we believe that providing free access to our peer-reviewed journals during this week aligns perfectly with this mission.

SensUs 2024 Competition

Every year, the annual international SensUs competition on sensors for health challenges student teams from around the world to develop a biosensor for a specific analyte as well as a business plan and live demonstration of their technology. At the event’s grand finale—the SensUs event at the Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands—the teams showcase their developments, exchange knowledge with other teams, and have a good time. By involving students, industry, patients, and healthcare professionals, SensUs strives to accelerate the development and innovation of biosensors and to stimulate education in this field. ECS Institutional Partner PalmSens supports SensUs.

The Journal of The Electrochemical Society is publishing a focus issue in connection with the Advances in Organic and Biological Electrochemistry: In Memory of Diane Smith symposium held at the 245th ECS Meeting in San Francisco, CA, from May 26-30, 2024. This focus issue is dedicated to the scientific topics that inspired Diane K. Smith, professor for 30 years in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at San Diego State University.

Prof. Smith made significant contributions to teaching and research in electrochemistry. The first woman hired into a tenure track position in her department, her research greatly influenced a variety of electrochemical research topics, including organic electrochemistry, supramolecular chemistry, catalysis, and electrochemical energy storage. She was a renowned mentor for members of our community and an outstanding educator.
