Advanced Training
Advanced training activities are conducted in close collaboration with our partners, most notably with the Department of Informatics Engineering of the University of Coimbra. These activities include PhD and MSc courses, which are our primary focus, along with other courses and initiatives.
Doctoral Programmes
PhDEI
PhDEI has a minimum duration of 3 years. In the first year, the PhD candidate must complete two courses and develop her/his thesis proposal. Once the academic part in the first year is concluded, the student will concentrate entirely on the research activities defined in her/his thesis proposal, aiming at writing the final doctoral dissertation.
The scientific activity of all PhDEI students is included in the Centre for Informatics and Systems of the University of Coimbra (CISUC), which is a center classified as Excellent by the Foundation for Science and Technology. CISUC has more than 80 researchers with a PhD degree and has a vibrant research activity, largely driven by international research projects that provide research conditions at the best international level to PhDEI doctoral students.
DDMC
The PhD in Computational Media Design aims to provide advanced scientific training at the confluence of Design and Computational Media, and respective research methods. Through an immersive program of learning in the context of laboratory projects and design practice, it aims to enable new researchers to understand and contribute to the advancement of the object and practice of design. A distinctive aspect of this program is the exploration of computational methods and techniques in Design, in dialectics with the innovation of computational media and their literacies, for the innovation of interaction models and technologies, the study of the dynamics of collaboration, in interdisciplinary synergy with the study of human perception and cognition and artistic practices.
Master Programmes
MEI
The Master in Informatics Computer aims to provide advanced training in different areas of Computer Engineering, being organized in four areas of specialization: Communications, Services and Infrastructure; Intelligent systems; Information systems; Software Engineering.
These specializations respond to market needs in both industry and services and research.
MEI follows the ACM and IEEE international curriculum recommendations, adapting them to national needs, the desired mobility within the European Area, and recommendations gathered from a broad panel of national recruiters. The MEI is highly rated in business, as attested by the situation of full employment of former students in prestigious national and international companies.
MDM
The MDM | Master in Design and Multimedia provides advanced design training in the context of digital media. MDM fosters the capacity for interdisciplinary dialogue, translation and orchestration within multifunctional design teams to train professionals capable of making an innovative synthesis of computing with artistic practices, communication design, and interaction design in the creation of mixed solutions of human intuition and computational production.
MDM aims to complement previous training in areas such as IT, Fine Arts or Communication Design by offering a range of specialization options in Interaction Design and Services, Web Design, Animation, Games and other Arts in interactive digital media.
MSI
The MSI | The Master in Computer Security aims to meet the demand for professionals in the area of Cyber-Security and the needs created by the European Union's Security of Network and Information Systems (NIS) Directive.
MSI works in a format that seeks to accommodate students already in the labor market, even if it is not a full-time post-employment course. MSI's career opportunities will be mainly medium and large companies and multinationals in the ICT, telecommunications, consulting, banking and services sectors in the European Area, where the needs for IT security skills are increasingly pressing. There is a great shortage of professionals with specific skills in this area.
MES
The MES | Master in Software Engineering aims to offer in Portugal advanced professional training in Software Engineering. Graduates are professionals absolutely indispensable to the software industry, capable of managing large projects, complexity and constraints imposed by the market. Software engineering masters are required for the software industry just as MBAs are for management, so the need for the market is evident.
This course also intends to profoundly and positively influence the offer of higher education in Portugal in the training of highly qualified industry technical leaders, teaching the practical application of innovative theories in a supervised studio environment. All students must complete a course consisting of five core subjects, four optional subjects, and a large-scale software development project for a real customer.
MEIG
The Master in Geospatial Information Engineering aims to train professionals with skills to collect, process and analyse geospatial data; management and provision of geospatial information; as well as the creation of applications and web services associated with this type of information.
The MSc in Geospatial Information Engineering provides advanced: Planning and execution of geospatial data collection with various technologies; Processing of geospatial data collected by positioning systems and optical, laser and radar sensors; Conception of geographic information systems and geospatial data infrastructures; Integration of geospatial data into information systems; Exploitation and analysis of geospatial data; Quality control of geospatial information and cartographic products; Integrating geospatial intelligence into decision-making processes.
Other Courses
e-LEARNING
The University of Coimbra’s Distance Learning Unit has a multi-disciplinary team that is able to support teachers in all phases of development of distance learning and b-learning courses regardless of the scientific area. It is the combination of its over 10-year of experience in elearning and of the scientific quality of UC’s teachers that has enabled it to produce more than 30 high quality courses involving all UC’s faculties.
EPSE
The EPSE | Executive Program on Software Engineering is born out of that tradition. It combines the knowledge and experience of two leading universities and their industry partners in the creation of a rich and rewarding learning program, providing trainees with a business perspective on Software Engineering.
Acertar o Rumo
The Programme Acertar o Rumo aims to develop the full potential of students by valuing the diversity of their backgrounds and driving their learning, growth and productivity in the area of Information Technology (IT).
The mission is an intense, in-depth, year-long plan designed for qualifying individuals in IT with higher education and precarious working conditions, enhancing their sustainable employability
