Oleh karena itulah tutorial ini berusaha menjawab seperti apa langkah mengonsumsi layer WMS dan WFS (baik dari GeoServer maupun ArcGIS Server) dengan memanfaatkan platform berbayar, yakni ArcGIS Pro. ArcGIS Pro sendiri adalah software SIG desktop yang bisa dikatakan terbaru dari ESRI. Berbeda dengan ArcGIS Desktop yang terbagi berdasarkan fungsinya, yakni ArcMap untuk data spasial 2D dan ArcScene untuk data spasial 3 dimensi, ArcGIS Pro mencakup keduanya sekaligus.

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) defines standards for the geospatial domain. The purpose of open standards is to provide interoperability. The main objective of Citi-Sense-MOB is to support green growth and sustainable development in Oslo, Norway, by providing citizens and authorities with information on transport, CO2 emissions and air quality. Melalui tulisan ini akan kita kupas bagaimana cara mengonsumsi (memanggil/membuka/mengunduh) data geospasial yang sudah berupa gis services, karena boleh jadi kebanyakan orang belum memanfaatkan lantaran tidak tahu caranya. FYI, sebenarnya data web services semacam WMS dan WFS ini bisa dipanggil ke dalam web GIS maupun ke dalam platform SIG desktop.

Geospatial Web Services (GWS) secara definisi pada dasarnya juga sama, hanya saja karena ada embel-embel “Geospatial”nya maka jenis data yang dapat diakses dan dimanipulasi menjadi lebih spesifik, yakni data dengan informasi lokasi atau bereferensi spasial. Contoh dari web services geospasial ada cukup banyak, bisa dilihat di website resmi The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC). Melalui tulisan ini, ada lima tipe web services geospasial yang akan kita bahas, yaitu WMS, WFS, WCS, WMTS, dan WPS.
