In diesem Beitrag wird in einem ersten Schritt Gastfreundschaft in theoretischer Hinsicht als ökonomische Tauschstrategie zwecks Integration von Haushalten in ihre soziale Umwelten zum Zweck der langfristigen ökonomischen Überlebenssicherung und dabei die Wirkungsmechanismen sowohl auf zwischenmenschlicher wie auch auf gesellschaftlicher Ebene dargestellt.

Im zweiten Schritt werden Gründe für die Dysfunktionalität von Gastfreundschaft mit Hilfe des Konzepts der Kohärenzgefühls (A. Antonovsky) und dessen Verlust erläutert. Dazu wird dargestellt, wie der Verlust des Vertrauens in gesellschaftliche Bezugssysteme – auf Miko- wie Makro-Ebene – zur Abwertung und Verminderung von gastfreundschaftlichem Handeln führt.

Als empirische Beispiele zur Illustration dieser Funktionalismen wird zunächst den Wandel der Beziehungen zwischen den Tuareg-Nomaden der Zentralsahara und Europäern skizziert, wurden doch die Tuareg vor ihrer Unterwerfung als „Piraten der Wüste“ bezeichnet, weil sie europäische Gäste umzubringen pflegten. Allerdings wurden seit der Eroberung Algiers durch Frankreich Europäer von Tuareg als mit allen Mitteln zu bekämpfende Eindringlinge wahrgenommen.
Nach ihrer Unterwerfung hingegen arrangierten sich die resignierten Tuareg mit den als übermächtig wahrgenommenen Franzosen und erfuhren dadurch in ihrer Wahrnehmung nunmehr eine Karriere als „gastfreundliche, edle und treue Wüstenritter“ sowie als touristisches Maskottchen. Ökonomisch profitierten gewisse Tuareg-Gruppen wesentlich durch ihre „Gastfreundschaft“ gegenüber ihren französischen Bewunderern.
Mit dem zunehmenden politischen, ökonomischen und militärischen Bedeutungsverlust Europas in Westafrika in den letzten 10 Jahren wandelte sich das Verhältnis der Tuareg gegenüber Europäern vom servilen Verhältnis als Reiseführer hin zu einem dominanten Position als wiedererstarkende Herren der Sahara, die von Europäern nunmehr in deren Rolle als lukrative Entführungsopfer profitieren, sowie von der Migrationskrise als ortskundige Schlepper im boomenden Menschenhandel durch die Sahara.

Analoge Wirkmechanismen lassen sich auch im Tourismus erkennen, wo die „Fähigkeit“ des Personals zur herzlichen Gastfreundschaft gegenüber Gästen von seiner Einschätzung der verschiedenen relevanten Beziehungsebenen abhängt:
-          Mikro-Ebene: Wie erfolgreich funktioniert die Kommunikation mit dem Gast, um beidseitige Zufriedenheit (und gutes Trinkgeld) zu erreichen?
-          Meso-Ebene: Wie sehr trägt der persönliche kommunikative Einsatz des Servicepersonals zu einem angenehmen Arbeitsklima im Betrieb sowie zu dessen dauerhaftem Gedeihen bei?
-          Makro-Ebene: Wird die Tourismusbranche – oder ein noch höher stehendes Bezugssystem – noch in einer Weise wahrgenommen, wonach langfristige persönliche sozio-ökonomische Sicherheit und Entwicklung möglich sei?

Anhand dieser beiden Fälle wird aufzeigt, dass aus Sicht von Antonovsky‘s Kohärenz-Konzept die Einschätzung der gesellschaftlichen Meso- oder gar Makro-Ebene eine entscheidende Rolle spielt, um gastfreundliches Verhalten im Kontext unmittelbarer Beziehungen als sinnvoll („kohärent“) zu empfinden und insofern weiter zu praktizieren. 

In den abschließenden Empfehlungen werden kurz Instrumente der betrieblichen Gesundheitsförderung als effektive und langfristig kostengünstige Mittel zur Stärkung des individuellen und innerbetrieblichen „Kohärenzgefühls“ und damit einer gelebten Willkommenskultur skizziert.

This article focuses on township tours outside Cape Town and Johannesburg during the
past decade. By examining the subjectivities of guides and tourists, as well as public
discourses about townships, I argue that township tours are ethically problematic and
ambiguous, but do not go uncontested. Questions about voyeurism and development
are negotiated during the tours in a number of ways. First, the morality of witnessing
townships – not through the modality of vision, but through participating in contact
zones – is asserted. Second, public discourses that valourize the creativity of the
poor, and which harness history as a force for reconciliation and development, inform
the tours. Third, tour guides attempt to reform charity and to highlight ethical
consumption. An ethnographic and discursive analysis leads me to conclude that
township tours are part of a larger post-apartheid project of re-imagining and
remaking marginalized urban spaces.

Adopted in April 1999 and acknowledged by United Nations in 2001, the UNWTO Global Code of Ethics for Tourism serves as a framework for the tourism stakeholders to minimize the negative impact and maximize the benefits of tourism (UNWTO, 2016b). Articulated through 10 articles, this code of ethics is perhaps the only official guideline for the tourism entities on a global scale (Dimitriou, 2016, p. 46). However, considering the multitude of communities across the globe, hosts and tourists alike, even a distributive interpretation of this code can be challenging, nevertheless its procedural implication. More so, the success of tourism is often measured by tourist arrivals (Dimitriou, 2016, p. 45), and seldom by their conduct. No doubt, as asserted by Lomine (2012, p. 200), the global tourism industry is providing billions of enjoyable days for travellers and millions of jobs across the communities, without careful ethical consideration tourism's sustainability can be in limbo. Optimistically, as Fennell and Malloy (2007, p. 140) pointed out, a code of ethics is increasingly becoming a part of today's business firmament. However, regrettably, most adopt the code of ethics in the interest of financial viability and trust (Fennell & Malloy, 2007, p. 140). This article explores if such ethic-wash is also tainting the tourism industry. Based on secondary research, literature reviews to be precise, this article focuses on, a) assessing the influence of the Code of Ethics on different tourism entities, and b) address the need for awareness towards the compliance of the principles of the Code of Ethics for Tourism.

The Westfjords of Iceland have seen steady depopulation related to a declining fishing industry over recent decades, while cultural policies emphasizing regional development have taken shape alongside the growth of the tourism industry. Such policies have resulted in a proliferation of private enterprises- cum- cultural institutions across the countryside, many of which challenge the representational styles and ideologies of older heritage museums. Within the context of a master’s thesis in Coastal and Marine Management, two qualitative case studies examining heritage museums in the region were conducted in order to determine what meaning local communities attribute to the types of heritage represented by these museums, and what values they associate with the museums as cultural institutions. Fieldwork consisted of twelve in-depth, phenomenological interviews with professionals connected to each site and a focus group discussion among five Westfjords residents with no ties to either. Data analysis consisted of applying open and data-driven thematic coding schemes to interview and focus group transcripts, respectively. Findings revealed that both museums are at the centre of important debates about identity, representation, museology, and cultural tourism in Iceland and embody various complex issues in international heritage scholarship. Many of these issues are interlinked with questions of heritage destination branding and raise concerns about the packaging of identity, history, heritage, and culture for tourism marketing purposes. This paper describes the main findings of the aforementioned research and examines them within a critical analysis framework for heritage destination branding based on two prominent texts from the tourism marketing literature.

El objetivo de este trabajo es esbozar las bases de un análisis crítico  del neuroturismo a través de la neuroética y la teoría social, con el fin de señalar las implicaciones que pueden derivarse del uso de neurotecnologías para fomentar el placer en el contexto turístico. Mediante una revisión de los objetivos propuestos por las investigaciones neuroturísticas, se subrayan los riesgos que conlleva su aplicación práctica tanto para la autonomía de los turistas, como para la configuración de los servicios turísticos y la elección de los destinos. De modo concreto, se plantea una problematización ética sobre qué puede conllevar la configuración del turismo en torno a bases emocionales, dada la predisposición «natural» con la que, según estas investigaciones, los sujetos hacemos elecciones en base a patrones emocionales.
A través del enfoque planteado pretende sugerirse que, en diálogo con otras disciplinas, la ética —como filosofía moral—, puede contribuir a la crítica del desarrollo actual del turismo y, en última instancia, a los debates que giran en torno a su orientación responsable con los destinos y servicios turísticos.

Tourism to indigenous populations is criticised as a form of modern colonialism, because the dominating tourist culture might overwhelm the so called fragile indigenous culture. This ethical research tries to evaluate this assertion on the example of tourism to the Tuareg-nomads in the region of Agadez, Republic of Niger, West Africa, Central Sahara. Therefore, interviews haven been done with a large number of local tour operators, tourists and the concerned Tuareg population of the Tuareg village of Timia in the central Aïr Mountains. The reconstructed structures and dynamics of the regional tourism development have been evaluated by an ethical model which is based on the principles of cybernetics and of sustainable development.
The ethical evaluation can proof, that tourism to Agadez in its present form doesn't destabilize the regional structures, even if there is a strong and sometimes even hostile concurrence between the Tuareg tour operators. Nevertheless tourism is an important economical factor of integration as the region suffers from unemployment, poverty and drought. By the population of Timia, tourism is seen as a tool to find contact to Europeans, who love to support this "idyllic but starving" village.
Obviously, the Tuareg from Timia have learnt to take advantage of those who are looking for an exotic, but endangered world to save.
Finally, most of the so found indicators don't support the assertion that tourisms to Tuareg nomads in the Agadez region could be a significant factor of its destabilization or something worse.

Reisen zu indigenen Kulturen sind umstritten, weil diese im Vergleich zur Tourismuskultur als fragil und somit als gefährdet gelten.
Die Richtigkeit dieser Hypothese wird am Beispiel von Tourismus zu Tuareg-Nomaden in der Region Agadez, Zentralsahara, überprüft. Dazu wurden die historischen, politischen, ökonomischen und kulturellen Rahmenbedingungen und Entwicklungsprozesse der Region als auch der Bevölkerung des Bergdorfes Timia untersucht. Im Zentrum der empirischen Untersuchungen standen die Strukturen der regionalen Tourismusentwicklung, wozu regionale Agenturbetreiber und Sahara-Touristen befragt wurden. Als Methode dienten Befragungen und Kataloganalysen. Als Evaluationsmaßstab wurde das System einer kybernetischen Ethik entwickelt, die sich an die Prinzipien der "nachhaltigen Entwicklung" anlehnt. Besonderes Augenmerk galt auch der ideologiekritischen Analyse des Tuareg-Mythos.
"Tuareg-Tourismus" wird überwiegend von urbanisierten Tuareg-Nomaden und einstigen Tuareg-Rebellen betrieben. Charakteristika der Tourismusstruktur sind ein weitgehend ungelenktes Tourismuswachstum, intensives Konkurrenzverhalten und geringe interkulturelle Qualifikation des Personals. Die Region leidet unter Arbeitslosigkeit und Dürren, weshalb die ökonomische Rolle des Tourismus signifikant ist, doch diese Einkommenschance trägt auch zu inneren Konflikten bei. Insofern weist Tourismus sowohl stabilisierende als auch destabilisierende Tendenzen auf.
Die Evaluation einer Rundreise konnte keine wesentlichen soziokulturellen und ökologischen Belastungen nachweisen. Die Belastungen des gesamten Tourismusaufkommens, maximal 4.000 Personen pro Jahr, halten sich aufgrund des großen Reisegebiets in Grenzen.
Die Befragung der Bewohner der Bergoase Timia ergab, dass Tourismus als willkommene Einkommensalternative sowie als Mittel betrachtet wird, um Entwicklungsprojekte zu requirieren. Dieser Haltung der Bevölkerung wird
vor dem Hinterrund der Transzendentalpragmatik und des Kulturalismus auf deren Legitimationskraft analysiert. Im Ergebnis kann die spezifische Form des Tuareg-Tourismus als vertretbar nachgewiesen werden, weil in seiner gegenwärtigen Form die stabilisierenden Effekte dominieren. Die Kritik am Tuareg-Tourismus wird zum Teil als Ausdruck exotisierender Projektionen entlarvt.

Este ensayo explora la posibilidad de aplicar el modelo de la Bildung a la enseñanza
de la hospitalidad, aspecto clave para la competitividad de las empresas y destinos turísticos.
Después de un breve panorama de algunas aproximaciones teóricas, el texto se centra en la
concepción de la hospitalidad como arte sugerida por Jafari, lo cual sirve de base para presentar el
paradigma de la Bildung expuesto de acuerdo a Gadamer. El artículo finaliza con unas reflexiones
acerca de la inserción de este modelo en los programas de educación turística.

ABSTRACT

An under theorized area of Dark and War Tourism studies concerns the appropriation of tours for the perpetuation of political propaganda. Taking the case of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) that separates North and South Korea this study demonstrates the extent to which heritage tours are used to present the political and military arguments of the South in order to persuade visitors of the justification of their actions in the ongoing conflict between North and South Korea.

Después de una breve presentación del Código Ético Mundial para el Turismo, y de una reflexión sobre el modelo que parece estar defendiendo de nuestras relaciones con la naturaleza, intento criticar el Código en base a unas consideraciones de corte neopragmatista sobre la idea misma de código ético. Trato de mostrar que los dos enfoques que suelen darse a los códigos éticos son problemáticos y dejan en mal lugar a dicha idea. El enfoque jurídico parece coercitivo e ineficaz, mientras que el propiamente moral puede conllevar dos graves riesgos: el primero, que el código se convierta en mera retórica; el segundo, que quede totalmente desvirtuado al no considerar sus condiciones de aplicación, tal y como ha mostrado Rorty.

Kybernetische Ethik ist ein meta-ethisches Modell, das auf aktuellen, jedoch im ethischen Diskurs bislang wenig beachteten anthropologischen, kognitiven und epistemologischen Paradigmen beruht. Dazu rekurriert das Konzept insbesondere auf jüngere Erkenntnisse der Hirnforschung, der Kommunikations- und Organisationstheorie sowie der Systemtheorie. Das Modell versteht sich als praktisches Instrument zur Überwindung der Kluft zwischen abstrakt gehaltenen ethisch-moralischen Ansprüchen und praktischen Zwängen innerhalb einer postmodernen Gesellschaft, die durch eine schwindende gemeinsame Wertebasis gekennzeichnet ist.
Das Modell beruht auf den drei Grundprinzipien Balance, Kontext und Limits, die jedes ethische Problem im Sinne einer konkreten Handlungsentscheidung determinieren. Aufgrund dieses paradigmatischen Sprungs vom dualistisch-abstrakten Verständnis von Ethik hin zu einer prozessual-konkreten Konzeption wird dem handelnden Individuum ein hilfreiches Instrument in die Hände gelegt, das vergleichbar ist mit qualitätsorientiertem Change-Management. Wenn auch notwendigerweise kontextuell, so ist die kybernetische Ethik demnach auch universell in dem Sinne, als partizipative Interaktion als fundamentales Axiom von kontextueller Legitimation und insofern auch von nachhaltiger Entwicklung vorausgesetzt wird. Der vorgestellte Ansatz geht über das Konzept einer universellen Ethik in Gestalt kodifizierter Normensammlungen wie dem “Global Code of Tourism Ethics” der UNWTO hinaus, insofern er Individuen die Entwicklung von praktikablen Lösungen für konkrete Probleme, jedoch unter dem Aspekt der anthropozentrischen, situativen Zukunftsfähigkeit, ermöglicht.
In diesem Sinne versteht sich kybernetische Ethik als ethisches Pendant zum selbstverantwortlichen High-Level-Wellness-Konzept.

В годините на преход бяха допуснати много грешки в развитието на туризма, довели до стихийно и непланомерно презастрояване, загуба на традиционни пазари и партньори, понижаване на конкурентноспособността на българския туристически продукт, унищожаване на национални туристически ресурси, природни и културно-исторически ценности. За ограничаване на негативните тенденции и повишаване качеството на туристическия продукт, група обществени туристически и природозащитни организации подписаха Меморандум за устойчиво развитие на българския туризъм чрез опазване на природното и културното наследство в България. В настоящото изследване е дадена дефиниция на понятието отговорен туризъм и е направен анализ на механизма за прилагане на етичните принципи в туризма, мястото на етическата отговорност и етическите решения в туристическата политика. Представен е Глобалния етичен кодекс в туризма въз основа, на който е изготвен Меморандумът за устойчиво развитие на българския туризъм. Описани са целите на Меморандума, основните принципи и акценти, както и насоките за бъдещите съвместни действия на присъединилите се организации. There have been admitted many mistakes in tourism development in the years of transition, resulted in irrepressible and non planned overdevelopment, loss of traditional markets and partners, reducing of the competitiveness of Bulgarian tourist product, destruction of national tourism resources, natural, cultural and historical values. For limiting the negative trends and improving the quality of the tourist product, a group of public tourist and environmental organizations signed a Memorandum of sustainable development of Bulgarian tourism by conservation of natural and cultural heritage in Bulgaria. In the present survey it is given a definition of responsible tourism and it is made an analysis of the mechanism for the application of ethical principles in the tourism, the place of ethical responsibility and ethical solutions in tourism policy. The 'critical turn' in tourism is defined as a research perspective that explores social transformation in and through tourism by facing the negative impact of strategic-instrumental rationality on this activity. This work explores the features of discourse ethics that may normatively support tourism transformation, a gap that has not been thoroughly discussed in tourism research. For this purpose, the study combines the use of critical and ethical theory with an analysis of discourse ethics in tourism literature to demonstrate that the use of Habermasian discourse ethics needs to be complemented with the Apelian approach. Through these steps the work reveals the theoretical bases of discourse ethics to discuss whether understandings between stakeholders guided by strategic-instrumental rationality can be reached not only in the political sphere —Habermas—, but also in the ethical field —Apel.

For several decades, tourism has mainly been identified as an activity that helps people escape their everyday routines, contributes to understanding between cultures, and promotes economic wellbeing. These assumptions have been questioned in both the public sphere and academic research, however. In this context, tourism research is increasingly drawing on ethical frameworks to support its criticism of tourism. Some of the most outstanding research on this issue is by Dean MacCannell, Emeritus Professor at the University of California at Davis and author of one of the seminal works of the social theory of tourism: The Tourist: A New Theory of the Leisure Class (1976). MacCannell examines the moral and ethical aspects of tourism in all his writing, but they are the focal point of his book The Ethics of Sightseeing (2011), in which he identifies the tourists’ responsibility to mediate between their understanding of their own pleasure and the ethical repercussions of the late modern imperative, “Enjoy!”. During the Touriscape congress in Malaga, Spain, in February 2018, MacCannell talked about ethics and tourism with José Luis López, who prepared this interview for Recerca.

The Western Front has become, once again, and after 100 years, an important and increasingly popular tourist destination. The Centenary is already encouraging large numbers of visitors to engage with this highly poignant landscape of war and to commemorate the sacrifice and loss of a previous generation. Interest is also being sharpened in the ‘places of war’ as battle-sites, trench-systems, bunkers and mine craters gain a clearer identity as war heritage.

For the first time this book brings together the three strands of heritage, landscape and tourism to provide a fresh understanding of the multi-layered nature of the Western Front. The book approaches the area as a rich dynamic landscape which can be viewed in a startling variety of ways: historically, materially, culturally, and perceptually. To illustrate these two dominant interpretations of the region’s landscape – commemorative and heritage – are highlighted and their relationship to tourism explored. Tourism is a lens through which these layers can be peeled away, and each understood and interacted with according to the individual’s own knowledge, motivation, and degree of emotional engagement. Tourism is not regarded here as a passive phenomenon, but as an active agent that can determine, dictate and inscribe this evocative landscape. 

The Western Front:  Heritage, Landscape and Tourism is a timely addition to our increasing interest in the First World War and the places where it was fought. It will be indispensable to those who seek a deeper understanding of the conflict from previously undervalued perspectives.

Stephen Miles is an Affiliate Research Fellow at the University of Glasgow’s Crichton Campus in Dumfries. He studied at the universities of Durham and Sheffield before undertaking a PhD at the University of Glasgow which he completed in 2012. He has previously written on ‘dark’ tourism and sense of place at conflict sites.

Slum tourism has been criticized for potentially exploiting the communities it visits. While the daily life of residents is the primary attraction of slum tourism, they do not receive any remuneration. Given the heated debate surrounding this topic, it is surprising that the perspective of residents remains largely unknown. This article aims to address this lacuna, by providing insights into the perceptions that residents have on slum tourism in Dharavi slum, India. It is unique in that it explicitly addresses host perceptions towards slum tourism enterprises as well as charitable activities funded through slum tourism. Insights were gained through 74 semistructured interviews, conducted in the most visited areas of the slum. Four different resident perspectives are recognized: apprehensive, positive, indifferent, and skeptical. Reisen zu indigenen Kulturen sind wegen deren angeblichen Verletzlichkeit verpönt. Diese Berechtigung dieser Ansicht wird am Beispiel von Tourismus zu Tuareg-Nomaden in der Region Agadez, Zentralsahara, überprüft. Dazu wurden die historischen, politischen, ökonomischen und kulturellen Rahmenbedingungen und Entwicklungsprozesse der Region sowie auch jene des Bergdorfes Timia in den Aïr-Bergen untersucht. Besonderes Augenmerk galt den Strukturen der regionalen Tourismusentwicklung, wozu regionale Agenturbetreiber, Sahara-Touristen sowie Angehörige der betroffenen Landbevölkerung interviewt wurden. Weiters wurden die Kataloge von europäischen Reiseveranstaltern analysiert. Schließlich wurde auch eine Trekking-Reise mittels teilnehmender Beobachtung evaluiert, wobei keine wesentlichen soziokulturellen und ökologischen Belastungen nachweisbar waren. Als Evaluationsmaßstab wurde das System einer kybernetischen Ethik entwickelt, die sich als personelle Ausprägung der "nachhaltigen Entwicklung" versteht. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt war die ideologiekritische Analyse des Tuareg-Mythos. "Tuareg-Tourismus" wird überwiegend von urbanisierten Tuareg-Nomaden und einstigen Tuareg-Rebellen betrieben. Charakteristisch sind das weitgehend ungelenkte Tourismuswachstum, intensives Konkurrenzverhalten der Reiseveranstalter und geringe interkulturelle Qualifikation des Personals. Die Region leidet unter Arbeitslosigkeit und Dürren, weshalb die ökonomische Rolle des Tourismus signifikant ist. Jedoch trägt diese Einkommenschance auch zu inneren Konflikten bei. Insofern weist Tourismus sowohl stabilisierende als auch destabilisierende Tendenzen auf. Die Belastungen des gesamten Tourismusaufkommens, maximal 4.000 Personen pro Jahr, halten sich aufgrund des großen Reisegebiets in Grenzen. Die Befragung der Bewohner der Bergoase Timia ergab, dass Tourismus als willkommene Einkommensalternative sowie als Mittel zur Requirierung von Entwicklungsprojekten betrachtet wird. Dieser Sichtweise wurde abschließend vor dem Hinterrund der Transzendentalpragmatik und des Kulturalismus auf deren Legitimationskraft analysiert. Im Ergebnis konnte die spezifische Form des Tuareg-Tourismus als vertretbar nachgewiesen werden, weil in seiner gegenwärtigen Form die stabilisierenden Effekte dominieren. Die Kritik am Tuareg-Tourismus konnte insofern im Wesentlichen als Ausdruck exotisierender Projektionen entlarvt werden.

This work addresses a critical analysis of the nature of cosmopolitan order encouraged by the World Tourism Organization. Given the growth of tourism activity and the challenges that it poses, this specialized agency of the United Nations has formally promoted equitable, responsible and sustainable development of tourism. However, the criticism of the principles from which the organization shapes tourism has put the focus on the objectives pursued. The conversion of these principles, included in the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism, adopted in 1999, into an international convention, approved in September 2017, presents a new scene that this work outlines from the cosmopolitanism perspective.

Walking tours are common practice in urban tourism and are, historically, one of the earliest examples of urban tourism. Due to a rise in the demand for so-called “authentic” experiences in tourism in recent years, there has been a growth in different types of cultural walking tours, particularly in poor neighborhoods of major cities globally. The increase in these tours brings to light a number of questions concerning the ethics of taking people through poorer areas, where relatively vulnerable populations live and work. This paper highlights some of the potential ethical concerns around this type of tourism, while also mentioning the potential benefits.

Crear códigos éticos buscando una mejora en la calidad moral del turismo es un modus operandi inadecuado. Inspirándose básicamente en tal idea, este ensayo tiene los siguientes objetivos: (1) presentar la ‘moralización del turismo’, criticada por Jim Butcher; (2) cuestionar el principal aspecto negativo de la misma: que convierte en superficial la ética del turismo; (3) exponer que la actual eclosión de códigos contribuye a esa trivialización de la ética turística; y (4) presentar algunas alternativas interesantes a los códigos, como la ‘ecología profunda’ y la ‘ecosofía-T’ de Arne Naess, la ‘ampliación del círculo’ propuesta por Richard Rorty, y, por último, los métodos de razonamiento moral.

El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar una concepción del vínculo entre ética y turismo que puede ser pensada como alternativa a la predominante en la teoría del turismo actual. Para ello, se partirá de la perspectiva evolutiva de la moral de dos filósofos contemporáneos: Peter Singer y Joshua Greene. Según se argumentará, paralelamente a la ética del turismo y al turismo ético, también puede hablarse de una potencialidad moral del turismo cultural de masas, la cual no surge de una aplicación de preceptos éticos al turismo, sino que es inherente a este último.

The objective of this article is to analyse a conception of the link between ethics and tourism that can be thought of as an alternative to the predominant one in current tourism theory. To do this, we will start from the evolutionary perspective of morality of two contemporary philosophers: Peter Singer and Joshua Greene. As it will be argued, parallel to the ethics of tourism and ethical tourism, one can also speak of a moral potentiality of mass cultural tourism, which does not arise from an application of ethical precepts to tourism, but is inherent to the latter.

The 'critical turn' in tourism is defined as a research perspective that explores social transformation in and through tourism by facing the negative impact of strategic-instrumental rationality on this activity. This work explores the features of discourse ethics that may normatively support tourism transformation, a gap that has not been thoroughly discussed in tourism research. For this purpose, the study combines the use of critical and ethical theory with an analysis of discourse ethics in tourism literature to demonstrate that the use of Habermasian discourse ethics needs to be complemented with the Apelian approach. Through these steps the work reveals the theoretical bases of discourse ethics to discuss whether understandings between stakeholders guided by strategic-instrumental rationality can be reached not only in the political sphere —Habermas—, but also in the ethical field —Apel.

Article refers to the ethical dilemmas which appear in cultural tourism. In the text the inappropriate behaviors of cultural tourism participants (because of such behaviors they can not be called cultural tourists) have been subjected to the critical analyses. The analyses concern ethnic tourism, popular culture event tourism, cultural heritage tourism, religious tourism, thanatotourism, slum tourism and sexual tourism. The authors have also described the errors made by cultural tourism organizers in the field of cultural tourism ethics.

Tourism is the business with people looking for enjoyment while being mobile. The tourism industry supports intensively the growth of the whole tourism system, progressively integrating destinations promoting their "beauty". The condition to be a part of this system is to have money, which migrants and asylum seeking people don't have. While they are leaving their home country due to security reasons, their country gets also dropped from the map of tourist destinations due to the lack of security - because migrants  are not part of the tourism system.

Resumen: Este artículo presenta los resultados de una investigación inspirada en el pragmatismo ambiental acerca de los patrones de acuerdo mostrados por los estudiantes de Administración Turística de la Universidad del Mar, los turistas nacionales que llegan a Huatulco y los trabajadores en el sector turístico de esta misma localidad sobre los artículos 3, 1.5 y 5.4 del Código Ético Mundial para el Turismo. Para ello, se utilizó una metodología en dos fases: la primera cualitativa (entrevistas en profundidad) y la segunda cuantitativa (aplicación de encuestas).

Sustainable tourism aims to achieve a balance between the needs of tourists, the environment, local people, and businesses – a situation complicated by the numerous ethical issues at play. In this paper we present an original account of the ethics of Aldo Leopold, as it unfolds in his classic work, A Sand County Almanac. We argue that prior interpretations failed to incorporate Leopold’s lynchpin cultural harvest idea into his larger ‘land ethic’, and that a proper understanding of the cultural harvest reveals how tourism and other recreational activities can drive a person’s ethical development. Ultimately, the land ethic helps us protect and nurture the most precious sustainability resource: human beings that value and respect the environment.
