Stone Dust

Concrete is a construction material composed of Cement, fine aggregate, coarse aggregate, and water with or without admixtures. The concrete industry is one of the heaviest consumers of natural resources due to which sustainability of concrete industry is under threat. The biggest problem facing the concrete industry is the environmental and economic concern. In this research Paper , the Ordinary Portland Cement (Grade 43) has been partially replaced by Waste Glass Powder (GLP) and in Second stage Natural sand and cement replaced by stone dust and waste glass powder accordingly in the proportion of 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% & 50%, at constant 15 % of Waste glass powder by weight of M-30 grade concrete. Concrete mixtures were produced, tested and compared in terms of Compressive Strength, Split Tensile Strength and Flexural Strength of the conventional concrete at a period of 28 days. It is observed that glass Powder and stone dust gives better results as compared to conventional concrete. It is found that strength and workability of mixes increases significantly when glass Powder and stone dust is used.

Nowadays, there's associate increasing interest within the development of ecofriendly
materials. The properties of Stone dust and Sand are almost same so it can be
easily used as partial replacement of sand in concrete . Steel Fiber is also added to
the concrete that it increases the crack resistance, ductility, energy absorption or
toughness of concrete. Thus, this paper addresses the results of change of Stone dust
and Steel fiber on the strength properties of concrete. The replacements are done at
0%, (30%, 1%), (40%, 1%), (50%, 1%) of fine aggregate with Stone dust and addition
of Steel fiber 1% by the weight of cement. Design mix is prepared on M30 grade of
concrete. The result showed that at fixed W/C ratio (0.40) the strength and durability
increased initially at small percentages and the cost for production is also cheaper

The demand of natural sand is quite high as there is an extensive use of concrete in world. This demand is being fulfilled by excessive instream sand mining which causes the degradation of rivers and creating ecological imbalance. Due to this reason, instream sand mining has been banned in most of the river. This retards the progress in construction field. It is needed to investigate the suitable alternative material for sand like stone dust. Stone dust is one of the alternatives of natural sand. It is a waste material and obtained from boulder crusher plants. When it is used in concrete, the problem of dumping is solved. The properties of concrete has been investigated with the partial replacement of natural sand by 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% of stone dust. Compressive strength of concrete increases with partial replacement of sand by stone dust increases up to 40% after both 7 days and 28days and beyond 40% starts decreasing. Concrete is known for high compressive strength but is weak in tension. Weak tensile strength of concrete along with its brittle behaviour results in the sudden tensile failure without warning which is not desirable for any construction material for the safety purpose of human life. To compensate this weakness of concrete, polypropylene fibers has been used as a material for reinforcement in concrete. Use of polypropylene fiber also changes mode of failure from brittle to ductile and also reduces crack widths and control the crack width tightly, thus improving durability. It also improves freeze thaw resistance of concrete.

This project work involves in an experimental study on the concrete by using stone dust and brick dust on the mechanical properties of the concrete. In this experimental study two types admixtures are used in preparation of concrete mix. Stone dust and brick dust are added from 0% to 25% by weight of fine aggregate with increment of 5%. A comparative analysis has been carried out for conventional concrete to that of the admixture concrete in relation to their compressive, split tensile and flexural strength properties. As the stone dust and brick dust content increases in cement concrete, the compressive and split tensile values are proportionally increasing. It is observed that at 20% of stone dust and brick dust is the optimum dosages for concrete mixture.

The present paper deals with the effect on strength and mechanical properties of cement concrete by using Fly ash (FA), Marble dust (MD) & Stone dust (SD). Concrete has become an indispensable construction material and it is now used in greater quantities than any other material. In the present context durability, strength, economy and stainable development are key issues for development. 25% and 35% of fly ash is used as replacement of cement and 30% and 40% natural sand is replaced by MD and SD in different proportion in concrete. Properties of fresh concrete and hardened concrete are investigated. Concrete prepared by replacing 25% of cement by Fly ash and 30% of sand by  marble dust and stone dust showed good results. The 7day & 28 days compressive strength was only about 3 to 4 % lesser than the control concrete.

The research focuses on the effect of using waste marble powder and quarry dust as partial sand replacement materials on concrete properties. Massive exploitation of the nonrenewable natural resources to fulfill the aggregate requirement of billions of tones each year for concrete production bears the serious risk of their gradual depletion. Therefore, concerns of aggregate material source depletion, together with the evolution of concepts of sustainable development and material conservation, leads to exploring of the effective utilization of waste materials instead of natural resources. Nine concrete mixes were prepared with Marble Powder and Quarry Dust as sand replacement materials (12.5%, 25%, 50% separately, and 25%, 50% combined). The effect of the replacements on workability, tensile, compressive and flexural strengths and cost were studied. Marble Powder negatively affected the workability while Quarry Dust improved it. Strengths were improved for 12.5% replacement of both the materials but further replacement decreased the strength within acceptable limits. These waste powders improved mechanical properties (at optimum percentages) or showed acceptable strength results (at higher percentages). The replacements of natural sand by waste quarry dust and marble powder will help to resolve environmental, economic and ecological issues of concrete production and will lead towards sustainability.

Due to increasing population the building materials used in conventional period is depleting, so the civil engineers are in the situation to use the waste material effectively in construction works without compromising the quality of the material. This strategy will also help to reduce the effects taking in disposal of waste materials. Bricks are one of the important building material used in construction but due to its non-availability of resource and its increased self-weight in the structure hollow blocks and solid blocks replace it. In this paper, the main material clay in conventional brick is partially replaced with different proportion of stone dust of percentage 10% 20% 30% effectively. Bricks are moulded with hand and dry it in hot weather for 15 days and burnt the bricks about 1100°C to find the mechanical .and physical properties. For each combination 5 sample of bricks were casted for accuracy in result. Compression test, efflorescence test and water absorption test were conducted and the results are reviewed with conventional property of brick. In this research, the stone dust with 20% stone dust gives optimum result with lower water absorption capacity.

The aim of this study is to analyze the probability of using crushed stone dust as a substitute of fine aggregate (i.e. River Sand) in concrete at 3 MTPA Integrated Steel Plant Project by TATA Steel, Kalinganagar, Odisha, India. Accordingly, Trial Mix design of M25 grade concrete was carried out using crushed stone dust after fulfilling the physical properties as per the relevant standard. Several trials were conducted with crusher dust of different sources. Trials were also conducted with different admixtures. After conducting several trials, we have arrived at a workable proportion with crusher stone dust with higher compressive strength than the established mix design M 25 using river sand.

The reuse of marble waste as filler material in the use of bituminous roads to replace stone dust is presented in this
paper. Stone dust is used as a filler conventionally by NHA, Pakistan. Compared to traditional mixes containing stone dust as
filler, modified mixes containing marble dust as filler were prepared. In both types of blends, three different percentages of
fillers were used, namely marble dust and stone dust (2 percent, 4 percent and 6 percent by weight of total aggregates), along
with three varying bitumen contents (4.5 percent, 5 percent and 5.5 percent) and its performance were compared with
conventional stone dust used as filler in bituminous mixtures. In terms of Marshal Stability testing, the effect of both forms of
mixes was measured and findings were discussed. The Marshal Mix design showed that, relative to traditional mixes, modified
mixes result in higher stability. The fact that marble dust acts is due to an improvement in the stability of modified mixes as an
extensor for bitumen. Stone dust consumes more bitumen and, when the summer temperature reaches 400C and more
compaction by heavily loaded vehicles, enables the disintegration of aggregate particles by bleeding.

A bituminous paving mix is a blend of aggregates and binder used to develop strong and long-lasting mix, to resist traf ic load. A bituminous mix has complex temperature sensitive behaviour (Its response to a given loading is very much dependent on temperature and loading). At high temperatures, bituminous binders have a purely ductile behaviour, whereas, at very low temperature they exhibit brittle behaviour. So, making bitumen less susceptible to temperature is one of the possible solutions. Use of bitumen blended with modifiers and fillers af ects the Marshall properties, strength and also increases the fatigue life. From literature review, it is observed that modified binder stif ens the mixes to reduce the thermal cracking and rutting. Mineral fillers act as anti-stripping agents to mixes, fills the voids and help in bonding the aggregates and binders. In the current investigation an attempt is made to design and compare the Polymer Modified Bituminous Concrete mix blended with Stone Dust and with Pond Ash as mineral fillers(individually) using Marshall method of mix design, determining Indirect Tensile Strength and Tensile strength Ratio of Polymer Modified Bituminous Concrete mix prepared at Optimum Bitumen Content. Polymer Modified Bituminous Concrete mix blended with Stone Dust as mineral filler is performing better than Polymer Modified Bituminous Concrete + Pond Ash as mineral filler with respect to 1) Marshall properties, 2) Indirect Tensile characteristics & 3) Moisture susceptibility.

This research paper presents the experimental study to find out strength parameter of sugarcane with partial replacement of cement and marble waste as partially and fully replacement with coarse aggregates. Addition of sugarcane is 5%,10%,15%,20% in cement and coarse aggregates contain 50% & 100% of marble. To find out the properties for specimens of compressive strength test, rebound hammer test and ultrasonic pulse velocity test (UPV), flexural strength test and water absorption tests are performed. Results indicate that the maximum strength and durability getting observed when the sugarcane replacement was 5% with 100% replacement of marble.

Road transportation is a key enabler in the development of nation in this era of globalization. Availability of strong and stable subgrade is an essential requirement for the construction of road pavements. However, along the entire road alignment good quality subgrade soil may not be available. Soil with a large plasticity index like clayey soil is undesirable as a subgrade soil. Change in road alignment to avoid such undesirable subgrade may not be economical or practical always. In such cases, the best remedy is to stabilize the existing soil. Expansive soil like clay can be stabilized by mixing it with non-plastic materials. In the present research paper effects of the mixing of stone dust on the properties of clayey soil are studied. Properties like plastic limit, Maximum Dry Density (MDD) and, Optimum Moisture Content (OMC), California Bearing Ratio (CBR) of clayey soil after mixing with stone dust at various percentages by weight are studied.
