Speed Controller

This paper presents a control scheme for speed control system in brushless dc (BLDC) motor to be utilized for electric motorbike. While conventional motorbikes require engine and fuel, electric motorbikes require DC motor and battery pack in order to be powered up. The limitation with battery pack is that it will need to be recharged after a certain period and distance. As the recharging process is time consuming, a PID controller is designed to maintain the speed of the motor at its optimum state, thus ensuring a longer lasting battery time (until the next charge). The controller is designed to track variations of speed references and stabilizes the output speed accordingly. The simulation results conducted in MATLAB/SIMULINK® shows that the motor, equipped with the PID controller was able to track the reference speed in 7.8x10-2 milliseconds with no overshoot. The result shows optimistic possibility that the proposed controller can be used to maintain the speed of the motor at its optimum speed

In this paper, based on the combination of particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm and neural network (NN), a new adaptive speed control method for a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is proposed. Firstly, PSO algorithm is adopted to get the best set of weights of neural network controller (NNC) for accelerating the convergent speed and preventing the problems of trapping in local minimum. Then, to achieve high-performance speed tracking despite of the existence of varying parameters in the control system, gradient descent method is used to adjust the NNC parameters. The stability of the proposed controller is analyzed and guaranteed from Lyapunov theorem. The robustness and good dynamic performance of the proposed adaptive neural network speed control scheme are verified through computer simulations.

This paper presents the experimental analysis of simplified rules Fuzzy Logic Speed Controller (FLSC) of Induction Motor drive. The maximum gain of input scaling factor, FLSC is generally limited by the coverage of universe of discoursed (UoD). Thus, to further increase the input gain scaling factor, G e the outer membership function need to be increased. This analysis covers various G e values in the range of UoD values from [-1,1] to [-5,5] for the wide speed range operations from low to rated speed ranges. The FLSC is employed to the indirect Field Oriented Control method fed by a voltage source inverter. Simulation and experimental verification is done by using Matlab/Simulink and dSPACE 1103 controller experimental rigs respectively. Based on the results, speed performance behaviours are improved over the wide speed range operations in term of rise time and setting time. The tuning approached is simple without additional algorithm for faster and more accurate response.
