The reflection about the experience of space and its folding about construction
and its physical spaces, on the limit between Art and Architecture, it was the purpose
of this research. The presentation of the Danish artist work, OlafurEliassoncreating an
overview of the study of space that the Artist has been carrying out since 1990.It is
installations of Art, which seeks a sensorial space, provocation of the visitor’s sense to
produce an experience of space. Because of the theoretical basis mentioned
frequently by the Artist and its artistic and architectural references, it is necessary one
chapter of understanding the theory of Eliasson’s masterpieces. Starting from the
contact with his artworks, narrowing the theme was defined around the aspects of
light and movement on the perception of space, where it highlights the references of
the Artist on History of Modern Art- The Kinetic Movement and the Group
Light&Space. The configured-triangle between the principle figures of these three
moments- Lászlo Moholy-Nagy, James Turrell and OlafurEliasson–serves as the access
to the repertory of the Danish Artist and it justifies the research not being focused on a
series of other notorious references of Eliasson. This thesis is divided, then, in three
chapters - the Presentation, the Understanding of the Theory and the Artworks of
Eliasson–in which the relationship is established on the examples of the artworks
commented. The tangle of theoretical references found on books of Eliasson has
consequences on the miscellaneous of Chapter 2. From the concepts clarified, terms
used by the Artist, on which artwork commented. On the analysis of two expositions
that occurred on the 2000 years, Take Your Time and Weather Project, it is better
understood his vocabulary and conceptual intentions applied on physical space. The
relevance of multiple researches of OlafurEliasson, which put him on the boarder of
Art and Science includes also the philosophical knowledge and its collaborators, such
as the curator Daniel Birnbaum, and culminates on the experiment of space on the
installations, on the participation of the public.

Lighting (Illumination in Architecture) aims to inspire and explain by drawing
on the present, the past and, of course, the future of lighting design. Once
again we are looking forward and taking an informed guess at who will lead
the profession in years to come, by identifying 40 rising stars under 40
years old. Of course, it is a sample from the pool of talent that the industry
draws on, which is growing continually as appreciation of lighting design
deepens around the world. Every continent, bar Antarctica, is represented
on this year’s list, and although formal lighting education is very much in
evidence, the men and women on it have entered lighting design from many
directions and disciplines. Art, academia and automotive design are just
a few. What they have in common is a desire to share their knowledge, as
activists – in their regional chapter of the Illuminating Engineering Society
of North America or the International Association of Lighting Designers, for
example – presenting at conferences, taking part in light festivals and, above
all, mentoring and supporting colleagues. The most effective propaganda for
lighting design is their work, their creativity and the benefits that they deliver
by designing with light and for people. Once considered narrow and arcane,
lighting design has joined the mainstream and itself demands a broad mix
of skills, from conceptualising to collaboration, computer simulation to
commissioning. It is significant, though, that so many of the 40 Under 40
have begun by studying architecture before being led by curiosity,
opportunity or artistic intent into designing with and through light – that
fundamental source of energy and experience. Neils Bohr (among many)
is credited with saying, ‘it is difficult to make predictions, especially about
the future,’ but we are confident that this year’s 40 Under 40 will cast
a long shadow – albeit only where they intend to.

High luminance contrast between windows and surrounding surfaces could cause discomfort glare, which could reduce office workers' productivity. It might also increase energy usage of buildings due to occupants' interventions in lighting conditions to improve indoor visual quality. It is presumed that increasing the luminance of the areas surrounding the windows using a supplementary system, such Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs), could reduce discomfort glare. This paper reports on the results of a pilot study in a conventional office in Brisbane, Australia. The outcomes of this study indicated that a supplementary LED system could reduce the luminance contrast on the window wall from values in the order of 24:1 to 12:1. The results suggest that this reduction could significantly reduce discomfort glare from windows, as well as diminishing the likelihood of users' intention to turn on the ceiling lights and/ or to move the blind down.

This paper aims to determine the characteristics of an ideal lighting control system. The notion of designing quality lighting environments that provide rich sensory experiences is used as a fundamental basis. A theoretical premise derived from the realm of interaction design for providing rich sensory experiences is put forward: It focusses on enabling tangible interaction through properties of lighting control systems. Human psycho-physiological processes are examined in order to direct the human interface with lighting ...
