Single Parenting

Family is the backbone of all children and children are supposed to grow in a family setting where both mother and father plays their respective roles in providing them a sense of security and stability but when it is done single handedly it becomes quite difficult to perform up to the expectations. In recent years, there has been a sudden rise in the phenomenon of single parent families in India due to multiple factors including the influences from western society. The present article is an attempt to review the available literature on single parent families, their causal factors, strengths as well as its weaknesses. Furthermore, the positive and negative impact of single parenting on adolescent's physical, psychological, emotional, behavioral, educational and social wellbeing is also discussed in detail. Besides, this paper suggests few strategies for single parents so that they can easily manage and cope up with the difficulties they face in such situations which might be helpful in improving the wellbeing of their adolescent children.

In this paper, we will discuss the prospect of human reproduction achieved with gametes originating from only one person. According to statements by a minority of scientists working on the generation of gametes in vitro, it may become possible to create eggs from men’s non-reproductive cells and sperm from women’s. This would enable, at least in principle, the creation of an embryo from cells obtained from only one individual: ‘solo reproduction’. We will consider what might motivate people to reproduce in this way, and the implications that solo reproduction might have for ethics and policy. We suggest that such an innovation is unlikely to revolutionise reproduction and parenting. Indeed, in some respects it is less revolutionary than in vitro fertilisation as a whole. Furthermore, we show that solo reproduction with in vitro created gametes is not necessarily any more ethically problematic than gamete donation - and probably less so. Where appropriate, we draw parallels with the debate surrounding reproductive cloning. We note that solo reproduction may serve to perpetuate reductive geneticised accounts of reproduction, and that this may indeed be ethically questionable. However, in this it is not unique among other technologies of assisted reproduction, many of which focus on genetic transmission. It is for this reason that a ban on solo reproduction might be inconsistent with continuing to permit other kinds of reproduction that also bear the potential to strengthen attachment to a geneticised account of reproduction. Our claim is that there are at least as good reasons to pursue research towards enabling solo reproduction, and eventually to introduce solo reproduction as an option for fertility treatment, as there are to do so for other infertility related purposes.

The economic hardship that has plagued Zimbabwe has led to a shift from the traditionally intact family to a singleparenthood family. Many factors lead to single parenthood including divorce, separation of all kinds and deaths. Single parenthood negatively impacts on students' academic development. The researcher explored influences of Single-Parenthood to Academic-Performances (AP) of Grade 6 and 7 students at Mutare Junior School in the Manical and Region of Zimbabwe. The researcher used 'cross-sectional study design' to collect data using criterion attainment tests, 'the Wide Range Achievement Test Level 1 (WRAT-1)' on 80 students under controlled situations having 40 Single-Parent-Homes (SPH)and 40Double-Parent-Homes (DPH)students. This dissertation explores possible links between environmental degradation and international migration. This research examines whether environmental change is an underlying push factor in the migration of Cameroonian women to Algeria. The researcher undertook a two-week field trip in Oran, Algeria. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 11 Cameroonian migrant women. Additional information was also gathered during the field trip through an observational study, exchanges with informants and gatekeepers. A thematic analysis was used to identify and explore themes in the interview transcripts. This research concludes that environmental change was not an underlying push factor in this migration flow. It shows that the driver of migration was the intersection of the political, economic and social conditions in Cameroon and the difficult personal situation of these women. Also, this study found that social media creates and perpetuates illusions around the realities of migration. These illusions explain some of the pull factors in this migration flow.

This study examined influence of single parenting on pupils’ academic performance with a focus on whether academic performance differed between child from single parents home and those from two parent homes. The cross-sectional study design was used. A questionnaire aided the collecting of primary data while secondary data on test scores was obtained from pupils’ report cards. The sample size was 170. Data analysis involved using cross tabulation and t – test. The results show that there is a significant difference between the academic performance of pupils from single parent homes and those from two parent homes. The main conclusion drawn from this study is that single parenting has negative impact on a child’s academic performance. The study recommends that teachers should give pupils from single parent homes attention to enable them cope and that they should equally be counseled to make them adjust to the academic environment.

Every child, in order to have a replete development of their personality, should be raised within a family ambience, within an understanding, felicitious and lovable climate. A child who is temporarily or completely deprived of their family environment, or who is not in their highest interests of their position in that environment, shall be entitled to be assisted and protected by the state. In the case of adoptions by single individuals, the norm moves very slowly towards a full adaptation to be brought, to be equated with other countries such as England, Spain, France, Germany, et cetera, to trust and give children in adoption to people that are not related to marriage as it is enshrined in Nice and Strasbourg. Each EU member state is obliged to amend rules of equality set out in the International Charter of Human Rights known as the Nice Charter of 2000. This document reaffirmed in 2007 and 2009 in Strasbourg is the pillar of justice, legality, equality and respect for human rights in all their aspects. This paper seeks to address adoption by single parents. One of the subjects of adoption, the adoptive parent, can he/she be single and is the adoption easy in these cases in Italy? What are the challenges of this institute when the adoptive parent is single? Are the procedures established by law strictly followed? Does deviation from procedures violate the best interests of the child? The Convention of the United Nations on the rights of children and adolescents (CRC) provides that in all decisions concerning children, the competence of public and private institutions, courts, administrative authorities or legislative bodies, the best interests of the child should be considered as primary. This paper does not essay to be exhaustive, but aspire to shed light on legislative and practical challenges facing the adoption institute in Italy when the adoptive parent is a single one and whether in this case the best interests of the child dominates decision making.

This quantitative study is an investigation of whether or not there is a link between crime and the family structure within an urban Midwestern community. The study took place in a
Midwestern urban community in Chicago Illinois. Participants were gathered from a prominent
Church within the community. Participants were randomly selected to participate in the study.
The participants completed two surveys that offered results pertaining to parental behavior and
likelihood of youth engagement in crime. The results indicated that there was some relationship
between the family structure and criminal activity among youth. Additional information will be
provided in the following sections; methodology, limitations, results, and implications for future
research.
