moreMy aim in this paper is to examine the ways in which Sayyid’s conception of the political differs from the thought of Ernesto Laclau and to draw out the consequences of this difference for contemporary thinking on the political in the context of the Islamicate. Specifically, we will find that a reading of Lacalu onto Sayyid’s text enables a movement out of the utopianism that Sayyid thinks, which is limited to the sphere of social recognition and ethics.
