Roman Danube provinces

Das Roll-up gibt eine kurze, allgemein verständliche Einführung zu den beiden römischen Schiffswracks aus der Zeit um 100 n. Chr., die 1986 in Oberstimm (Markt Manching) entdeckt und 1994 vollständig geborgen wurden. Seit 2006 bilden die Wracks Highlights der Dauerausstellung im kelten römer museum manching. +++ Das Roll-up wurde im Rahmen des Kooperationsprojektes »Die Rückkehr des Römerschiffs« erstellt, an dem das kelten römer museum manching, die Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg und weitere Institutionen beteiligt waren. Im Juli und August 2018 begab sich ein 1:1-Nachbau des Oberstimmer Schiffswracks 2 entlang der Donau auf große Tour: die Fridericiana Alexandrina Navis (kurz F.A.N.). Sie bot interessierten Besuchern die einzigartige Gelegenheit, sich selbst in die Riemen zu legen und damit Geschichte hautnah zu erleben.

Among the main objectives of the project 1 are the questions concerning the planning of the fort and the size and character of the civil settlement attached to it. An important issue was the fate of the site after the abandonment of Dacia by the Romans and whether there are visible traces that could be connected with the efforts under Diocletian and Constantine to refortify the Danube section that had been an internal provincial border for ca. 170 years 2 .

Chr. errichtet wurde und den Verkehr auf und neben der Donau kontrollierte. Hierfür stand der Garnison ein Schiffsanleger an einem Nebenfluss der Donau zur Verfügung. На основе анализа творчества позднеантичного придворного поэта Западной империи Клавдия Клавдиана в статье определены основные словесные конструкции, с помощью которых автор описывает ситуацию, сложившуюся на территории нижнедунайских провинций после расселения там готов. Изучение конкретных ситуаций и дискурсивных практик, применяемых Клавдианом в своих произведениях по отношению к реке Дунай и прилегающим к ней провинциям, показывает тревогу, с которой двор Гонория смотрел на Балканский регион. Высшие чиновники Западной империи стремились к установлению римской власти над Дунайским побережьем вне зависимости от того, будет ли там руководить Восточный или Западный двор. Клавдиан передает читателям это желание видеть указанные земли под римской властью. На основе изучения контекстов упоминания Дуная предполагается, что в официальном дискурсе двора западного императора Гонория нижнедунайские земли провозглашались усмиренными. Они начинают восстанавливаться от разрушений прошедших войн, хотя и продолжают восприниматься как очаг нестабильности. Предполагалось, что после того, как сначала Феодосий I заключил с готами договор 382 г., а затем Аларих покинул Фракию в 395 г. во главе со своими соплеменниками, дунайские земли сами собой вернулись под римское управление вне зависимости от функционирования там римских институтов власти.

The paper analyzes the poetic work of a late antique court poet from Western Roman Empire Claudius Claudianus. The key verbal constructions describing the situation on the Lower-Danube region after the Goths have settled are identified. The analysis of the Claudianus’ discourse shows the state of alarm of the Honorius court looked at the Balkan region. The high officials of Western Empire sought to establish Roman authority over the Danube region, regardless of whether the Eastern or Western court would rule there. Claudianus conveys to the readers that desire to see those lands under Roman rule. The study of contexts in which the Danube is mentioned by Claudianus allows to assume that in the official discourse at court of the Western Emperor Honorius the Lower-Danube lands were pronounced pacified. They were beginning to recover from the destruction of the past wars, although still being perceived as a hotbed of instability. It was supposed that after Theodosius I first concluded the Treaty with the Goths in 382, and then Alaric and his people left Thrace in 395, the Danubian lands returned to Roman rule regardless whether the Roman institutes of power there functioned or not.
