moreDuring excavations in Vindonissa, human skeletons or parts of skeletons have continued to be found – either in isolation or in small groups. Due to the lack of grave goods, many of them have not yet been dated.
In the present paper, numerous skeletons have been identified in the depots of the Kantonsarchäologie Aargau, and, for the first time, were not only dated by radiocarbon but also analyzed anthropologically. The chronological spectrum of the finds begins in the Late Latène Period and has a strong emphasis on the Middle and Late Roman Imperial Period. A mass grave discovered in 1985 can now also be safely assigned to this timeframe. Skeletal finds from the modern period could be related to the coalition wars of the Napoleonic period.
