Social support is deemed to have a crucial influence on maternal health and wellbeing during pregnancy. The objective of the study was to explore the experiences of pregnant young females and their receipt of social support in Soweto, South Africa. An interpretive phenomenological approach was employed to understand and interpret pregnant young women’s lived experiences of support networks on their pregnancy care and wellbeing. Data was collected conducting 18 indepth interviews with young pregnant women. Analysis of the data resulted in the development of two superordinate themes: (1) relationships during pregnancy and (2) network involvement. Each superordinate theme was linked to subthemes that helped explain whether young women had positive or negative experiences of social support during their pregnancy care, and their wellbeing. This study aims to describe three discussion topics about the importance of the coffee commodity for the Gayo community, the impact of COVID-19 on Gayo coffee farmers, and to analyse the policies implemented by the government in minimizing the losses of farmers affected by COVID-19 in the framework of maqāṣid sharia. This type of research is qualitative, with data methods through in-depth literature reviews of primary and secondary sources of previous scientific research, government agency reports and online media. The results showed that Gayo coffee has made a major contribution to food security, but since Covid-19 it has implications for coffee price fluctuations which have an impact on decreasing people’s income. Background The COVID-19 pandemic has brought unique challenges to parents of young children, due to the closure of schools and childcare centers, and increased caregiver burden. These challenges may be especially pronounced for youth with foster care backgrounds, as they lack critical support and resources to rely on during emergency situations. Objective The purpose of the present study was to examine the experiences of these vulnerable young parents since the beginning of the pandemic. Participants and setting Our study included 17 young parents ages 18–26, who had recently aged out of foster care or were currently in extended care. Participants were predominantly female, and Black, Indigenous, or people of color (BIPOC). Methods Youth participated in virtual focus groups or individual interviews and described their experiences and challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. A structured thematic analysis approach was employed to examine key themes in youths` accounts. Results Analysis resulted in five major themes: (a) employment disruptions and economic hardships, (b) educational challenges for parents and children, (c) parental and child mental health concerns, (d) insufficient resources and barriers to service receipt, and (e) “silver linings”. Conclusions Young parents with foster care backgrounds faced numerous challenges due to COVID-19 and struggled to access critical resources and supports. Implications for policy, practice, and research are discussed.

ABSTRACT This study examines responses to informings in naturally-occurring Greek interaction. Despite the growing literature on the examination of practices that are being used by English speakers to respond to an informing, little work has been done to study their use in the context of Greek conversations. The present study will therefore contribute to the field by examining information receipts in Greek. By informing we mean any utterance that conveys information; for example, “I bought a new house with my husband” is a simple example of an informing. Work on English has suggested that informings can be challenged (Drew, 2003), receipted with surprise (Wilkinson & Kitzinger, 2006) or merely be accepted. This presentation will report on a part of a larger study of receipt tokens in Greek everyday interactions. The present analysis addresses the use of ‘ne’ (=yes) in a questioning format in managing those particular actions. The method employed to conduct the research for this study is conversation analysis, “…the study of recorded, naturally occurring talk-in-interaction” (Hutchby & Wooffitt, 1998: 14). The data selected and utilized for the specific study consists of audio- and video-recordings of naturally occurring talk among friends and family members from diverse age groups and socioeconomic backgrounds of 17 and a half hours in total. Preliminary results indicate that, ‘ne’ after a new informing can have several usages, according to the interactional environment in which it is situated. Depending on its position in the sequence and its composition inside the turn, it can indicate disbelief, rejection or acceptance. The goal of this study is to provide insights into why ‘ne’ in a questioning format is the so-called ‘preferred’ response to a new informing and determine its interactional significance in Greek talk-in-interaction.
