This was the first-ever article to describe and analyze the possibility of a One-State Solution for Palestine/Israel from a Mizrahi positionality both in the Hebrew original and the English translation. Its composition -- like all of Lavie's writing about the Mizrahi feminist struggle in the context of the Question of Palestine -- has been fraught with all manner of relentless campaigns by those elements in academia that
would rather have Lavie and her research disappear. Needless to say that shortly after this article saw print in the Hebrew original in 2008 its analysis of the possibility for a one state solution for the Israel/Palestine conflict was appropriated and published without proper quotation or citation.

The Cairo Genizah has shown its importance as a fruitful source for the study of both liturgical and secular Hebrew poetry. Yet, although the Cairo Genizah also contains hundreds of poetry fragments written in the Arabic language, its Arabic and Judaeo-Arabic poetry has hitherto received inadequate attention in research literature. This article explores some of the Genizah's Arabic poems written in both Hebrew and Arabic script, which are held at the Taylor-Schechter Genizah Collections of Cambridge University Library. The article concludes with a discussion about the importance of the Cairo Genizah to the study of Arabic literature and poetry, and Islamic studies in general, as well as a source for the study of the dissemination of knowledge within medieval Muslim and Jewish elites.

Computational-quantitative study in the humanistic disciplines has been increasing steadily in recent years thanks to the accessibility of computers, the rise in digital literacy, and the rapid digitization of texts and artifacts. Research in this digital environment makes possible unorthodox approaches to well-established methods and raises questions that could not have been asked in the past. Tools that enhance human interpretation by means of computational power and processing big data- sets sometimes change the hermeneutical perspective.
This article illustrates new possibilities in computational literary study with an interesting case study: a reexamination of my doctoral dissertation on figurative language in early Piyyut that was written fifteen years ago. The detailed literary analyses from the dissertation were uploaded into CATMA, a web-based annotation tool, and were explored using visualization capabilities of the tool as well as other statistical methods. The comparison of the analog and digital explorations corroborated some of the findings of the dissertation and refuted others. More importantly, new insights were fleshed out using ‘distant reading’ techniques. All in all, the article seeks to promote a sober and accessible Digital Humanities that do not strive to replace traditional humanistic methods but to provide scholars with new tools and approaches.

The text of a drinking song דודי מהר תנה יין is published together with the Russian translation and commentaries. The text was found engraved on a wine flask from the collection of the former Indigenous Jewish Museum in Samarqand and followed by the date 5344 (1588 CE). The same text was found also in two other sources: in a Bukharan Jewish manuscript of the 19th century and in the museum archives. The poem contains numerous quotations from the Bible and Kabbalistic implications. The text has the form of an acrostic displaying the author's name: Jacob. The problem of where the poem was written and who was the author is discussed.

Some Hebrew mystical texts use esoteric rhetoric, yet our ability to historically verify these claims is very scant.
This article tackles this problem from a new angle.  Literary analysis of Sefer Yeşira shows that it contains many poetical features typical of oral traditions: alliteration, assonance, anaphora, parallelism, semantic compression, the play of words, and beautiful visual images that serve as organizing principles.  Most important is the constant effort to use numerical systems as organizing principles.
Thus this article claims that the motivation for garbling mystical ideas in a beautiful rhythmic song-like text is mnemonic – the need to remember the group’s unique esoteric ideas without feeling free to put them into writing.  The fact that the text was edited and adapted time and again over many generations might explain the lack of consistency in using those literary means.
