Für die Jahre 1936 bis 1939 liegt im Stadtarchiv Detmold private niederländische Korrespondenz mit dem städtischen Verkehrsamt vor, sowie Schriftverkehr des Amts mit niederländischen Reiseveranstaltern. Dieser Bestand gibt nicht nur über die touristischen Ziele und das touristische Selbstbild Detmolds Auskunft, sondern auch über die Erwartungshaltungen und Erfahrungen der Besucher.
Bei niederländischen Individualreisenden zeigt sich der Interessensschwerpunkt Sommerfrische, wohingegen bei Reiseveranstaltungen bzw. Gesellschaftsreisen der Fokus auf dem Erlebnis „urwüchsiger“ Landschaft, auf „romantischen“ Städten sowie Bildung liegt. Das hier sichtbar werdende niederländische Deutschlandbild sagt mehr über niederländische Identität aus als über Deutschland.
Das Verkehrsamt Detmold war eingebunden in die gleichgeschaltete und hierarchische Steuerung des Tourismus. Nationalsozialistische Ziele hinsichtlich ausländischer Touristen waren die Vermittlung von „Normalität“ in Deutschland einerseits und die positive Darstellung nationalsozialistischer „Errungenschaften“ andererseits. Der Grad der Einflussnahme auf die Touristen hing vom Tourismusziel und den Interessen der Besucher ab. Lippe-Detmold eignete sich zwar mit seinen Orten und Landschaften zur Vorführung von „Normalität“, bot aber wenig für positiv am Nationalsozialismus interessierte Besucher. Für die niederländische Arbeiterbewegung war Tourismus unter dem NS-Regime abschreckend. Das große touristische Interesse an der Hochzeit der niederländischen Thronfolgerin Juliana von Oranien-Nassau mit Bernhard zur Lippe-Biesterfeld war Ausdruck der pro-oranischen Identität der Niederländer. Deutschland hingegen wollte das „Stammland von Prinz Bernhard“ aufgrund politischer Spannungen in den Hintergrund rücken. Touristische, wirtschaftliche und politische Interessen standen bei der Niederlandewerbung in Konflikt.

Kurzfassung Die beliebte Urlaubsinsel Texel im niederländischen Wattenmeer weist eine bemerkenswerte Flora reich an seltenen und gefährdeten Arten aus unterschiedlichen Lebensräumen und Biotopen auf. Darunter finden sich einige Arten, die mittlerweile in den Küstengebieten Deutschlands stark gefährdet sind. In this qualitative study we explore the experienced impact of studentification on ageing-in-place (i.e., ageing in one’s own home and neighbourhood for as long as possible). Studentification, which refers to concentrations of students in residential neighbourhoods, has been associated with deteriorating community cohesion by several authors. This can negatively affect existing neighbourhood support structures. In examining this topic, we draw on in-depth interviews with 23 independently living older adults (65+) which were conducted in a studentified urban neighbourhood in the Netherlands. Our results show how the influx of students in the neighbourhood negatively affected older adults’ feelings of residential comfort. While the elderly constitute a significant proportion of urban population, they are often not included in the decision-making processes concerning their health requirements. These exclusionary practices could be viewed as reflecting deficits in urban citizenship as well as a denial of what the French sociologist Henri Lefebvre defined in 1968 as the ‘right to the city’ (Lefebvre, 1968). This article is concerned with promoting the social inclusion of the elderly in urban spaces. It focuses on the potential of eHealth to facilitate their independent living in their own homes, an expressed priority of the elderly. It discusses a pilot project pioneered by the Municipality of The Hague where attention and space was given for the elderly to express their physical and emotional needs in different fora with relevant stakeholders, and reflect on ways in which eHealth could be of help to them. Purpose: The present paper investigates the effect of the navigation design (static or dynamic) in e-commerce. Specifically, a comparison is made of consumers from two cultures: the Dutch and the Greek. Methods: A total of 221 Dutch and Greek subjects participated in an experimental survey, where they judged an online search page of a hotel booking website. The study had a 2x2 between-subjects design with the factors navigation design (dynamic or static) and cultural background (Dutch or Greek). The primary dependent variable was the behavioural intention to use (the website). The hedonic and utilitarian attitudes were the mediators. Results: The analysis of the results showed that the navigation design preferences are culturally affected and influence the consumers' attitudes and behavioural intentions. Fürst Walrad zu Nassau-Usingen gilt, wenn auch in Usingen weder geboren noch gestorben, nicht nur in der von ihm geschaffenen Residenz als eine der bedeutendsten Gestalten Usingens und des nassauischen Landes. Vielmehr hat er als kaiserlicher und niederländischer Feldmarschall einen imponierenden Beitrag zur Abwehr der das Reich und die Vereinigten Niederlande bedrohenden Expansionspolitik fremder Mächte geleistet. Der Beitrag beleuchtet Walrads außergewöhnliches Wirken vor allem in Europa.

Context: In the Dutch educational system, different learning pathways to higher professional bachelor (or HBO) programmes have been created: the regular VET route, the general secondary education route, and continuing learning pathways (such as the Green Lyceum or GL) that combine characteristics of these two traditional routes and that are specifically designed for students who combine a relatively high cognitive level with an affinity for practical, vocation-oriented assignments. Approach: The present study aimed to compare the experiences of students coming from these three different learning pathways to HBO. 62 former GL students, 127 former middle-management VET (or MBO) students, and 81 former regular general secondary education (or HAVO) students completed an online questionnaire on their experiences in their first HBO study year and their scores on the various scales were compared. Findings: Students from the three groups were equally satisfied with their current HBO program...

This paper shows that the dynamics of late 19th-century cholera in a relatively small town differed from the alarming dynamics of this contagious disease in large towns and metropoles. With 1866 Woerden as case study, a town located in the heart of the Netherlands, we show that the fourth and final major cholera outbreak was framed as just another crisis, on top of other crises and soon to be replaced by other crises. The outbreak not only hit the poor but also the elites and middleclass families, most probably because most of the households relied on water supply from the same river. The needy citizens could, in times of cholera, rely on additional support, but evidence also shows that local institutions already offered a wide range of support, even to migrants.

In Central Europe, German was often used as a language for translating Dutch works into other languages. Although the Leipzig Book Fair has inspired many Czech publishers each year to translate literary titles, today's situation in the Czech Republic seems different. This chapter examines the alleged mediating role of German publications in the GDR and their respective German translations of Dutch literature for Czech translations after the Second World War. In this transfer process, which was characterized by political and individual events, different periods can be distinguished: The Communist takeover in 1948 was a first break with the pre-war situation; the beginning of the translation career of Olga Krijtová, the most important translator of Dutch and Flemish literature in the post-war period; the Prague Spring (1968); and the so-called normalization period (1969-1975).
