সাহিত্যিকের কল্পনা-প্রতিভা আর সচেতন নাগরিকের মনন-বিশ্লেষণ : শওকত ওসমানের উপন্যাস - একজন সাহিত্যক যখন সাহিত্য লেখেন তখন কল্পনা আর সমাজবাস্তবতা এই দুই এর দ্বন্দ্ব চলতে থাকে আর সেই দ্বন্দ্ব থেকেই তৈরি হয় সাহিত্য। শওকত ওসমানের উপন্যাসেও আছে সেই দ্বন্দ্ব । তিনি এক জীবনে তিন ভিন্ন ভিন্ন নামের দেশের বাসিন্দা । কেমন ছিল তাঁর উপন্যাস, উপন্যাসের গভীরে গিয়ে সেগুলিকেই বিশ্লেষণ করার চেষ্টা করা গেল। কিছু মতামত থাকলে আমাকে মেল করতে পারেন। সমৃদ্ধ হব।

Jibanananda Das is the most significant poet in Bengali literature in the post-Tagore era. He was the most significant in the Kallol era, which pioneered modernism in Bengali literature. His collections include Jhora Palok (Fallen Feathers, 1927), Dhushor Pandulipi (Grey Manuscript, 1936), Bonolata Sen (1942), Moha Prithibi (Great Earth, 1944), Shaat'ti Tarar Timir (The Darkness of Seven Stars, 1948). Jibanananda died in a tram accident in 1954. In 1955, his Shreshtha Kabita (Best Poems) received the Sahitya Akademi Award from the National Academy of Letters. Posthumous collections include Rupasi Bangla (Beautiful Bengal, 1957), Bela Obela Kalbela (Times, Bad Times, End Times, 1961). Several of his works were published posthumously. which include several unpublished poems, novels and short stories. His critical study of poetry was published as Kobitar Katha (Some Words on Poetry). All the poems translated here are from his third collection Bonolata Sen.

The Bengali poet Shakti Chattopadhaya (1933 – 95) was fond of putting irreconcilable opposites together – individual and the social, freedom and bondage, creation and destruction, life and death and home and the world. And this paper investigates his poetic oeuvre to show how an obsession for an incessant play of oppositions (negation and affirmation) becomes a theory for the poet. The paper argues that this is a conscious act on his part to introduce a space for otherness, which introduces, to use Ranjan Ghosh’s terminology, a “hunger” in his poetry. Here, the act of “choice” becomes a complicated metaphor because it stretches desire to the breaking point of vulnerability. He leaves us in a state of continuous oscillation where choice itself becomes a “play”. His final solution – the middle passage (dharmeo acho giraffeo acho) – is not a selfish stance but it always keeps open the possibility for another alternative in an otherwise dogmatic world.

আত্মজিজ্ঞাসা ও সত্তাসন্ধানের সমগ্রতায় কবি জীবনের সূচনা থেকেই হাসান হাফিজুর রহমান স্বতন্ত্র শিল্প অভিপ্রায়ে বিশিষ্ট হয়ে ওঠেন। সমকালীন বাংলা কবিতার বিষয়-সংকটকে তিনি গভীরভাবে অনুধাবন করেছিলেন। তিরিশের কবি-পুরুষরা যে দ্বন্দ্ব ও অগ্রগতির প্রক্রিয়ায় চৈতন্য স্থাপন করে সমাজ, সময় ও সভ্যতালগ্ন হয়েছিলেন, বিভাগোত্তরকালের কবিতায় তার স্পন্দন দুর্লক্ষ্য। চল্লিশের দশকের নবোদ্ভূত প্রগতিবাদী ও  জীবনলগ্ন কাব্যধারাও দেশ-বিভাগ, সাম্প্রদায়িক দাঙ্গা, রাষ্ট্রাদর্শের পশ্চাৎগতি প্রভৃতি ঘটনার প্রতিক্রিয়ায় হয়ে পড়েছিল অবরুদ্ধ। ১৯৪৮ সাল থেকে সূচিত ভাষা আন্দোলন, দ্বন্দ্ব-জটিল সমাজ-রাজনৈতিক ঘটনাপ্রবাহ, সমাজমানসের স্বপ্ন ও স্বপ্নভঙ্গের দুঃসহ বাস্তবতা এবং ১৯৫২ সালের একুশে ফেব্রুয়ারির প্রতিবাদ ও আত্ম-উজ্জীবন সংবেদনশীল শিল্পিচিত্তে হয়ে উঠেছিল নবসৃষ্টির পথনির্দেশনা। ফলে, অতীত-গর্ভ থেকে উত্থিত প্রতিক্রিয়াশীল রাষ্ট্রীয় আদর্শ হলো পরিত্যাজ্য; গণতন্ত্র, সাম্যবাদ, ধর্মনিরপেক্ষ জীবনদৃষ্টি প্রভৃতি মানবকল্যাণধর্মী মতাদর্শ ও চিন্তাধারা শিল্পকলার মৌল উপাদানে পরিণত হওয়ার অবকাশ পেল। শিল্পী যেহেতু সমাজের প্রাগ্রসর চেতনার প্রতিভূ, সে কারণে এ পটভূমিতে শিল্পীর দায় বৃদ্ধি পেল বহুগুণে। বাংলাদেশের কবিতায় হাসান হাফিজুর রহমান সেই দায় বাস্তবায়নের অগ্রবর্তী সংগ্রামী শিল্পিপুরুষ।
