Trabajo final del Curso de Postgrado Latinoamericano-PEDECIBA Diplomacia Científica aplicada a las Neurociencias, realizado en formato virtual del 12 julio al 4 agosto, 2021. La propuesta está sustentada en una entrevista realizada a la Doctora Dulce Papy-García, Directora del Instituto de Crecimiento Celular y Reparación de Tejidos, en la Université Paris-Est Créteil Val de Marne (UPEC).

Abstract: The last fifteen years have seen a rise in critically-acclaimed fiction films depicting undocumented migration from and through Mexico. By analyzing two illustrative examples—Guten Tag, Ramón(2013), and Ya no estoy aquí(2019)—this paper uses the framework of the coming-of-age genre to dissect the characteristics of this contemporary cinematographic type, thus pondering its inner-workings and appeal. Moreover, the paper contrasts different factions of the critical reception of these films in order to examine why they are met with both punitive disdain and enthusiastic celebration. The differences in tone between these two films show how the themes of migration, poverty, and violence can be interpreted in varied ways that serve to call attention to their urgency. From the lighthearted humor of Guten Tag, Ramón to the poignant solemnity of Ya no estoy aquí, the cinematographic genre, so close to the archetypal plot of coming-of-age narratives, denounces both the indifference of the Mexican middle class and the xenophobic settings that seek to under-mine the right to migrate.

U.S.-Mexico migration has been completely transformed. Currently, more Mexicans return from the United States to Mexico than those who migrate to that country. Millions of Mexican migrants have left the United States due to the economic recession, a harsher immigration policy, and a stronger deportation system. Mexican returnees, voluntary and involuntary, present a diverse profile and wide-ranging reintegration needs, which constitutes a challenge for the government in Mexico. Here we analyze specific initiatives and programs created by the Mexican federal government to serve returnees, also we identify various challenges and areas of improvement. Finally, we offer recommendations for a better reintegration of the returnee population. RESUMEN La situación migratoria México-Estados Unidos se ha transformado por completo. Más mexicanos retornan de Estados Unidos a México que aquellos que migran a ese país. Millones de mexicanos han salido de Estados Unidos debido a la recesión económica, el endurecimiento de la política migratoria y el fortalecimiento del sistema de deportaciones estadounidense. Los retornados, voluntarios e involuntarios, presentan un perfil diverso y necesidades de reintegración variadas, lo que constituye un desafío para México. Aquí analizamos las iniciativas y programas creados por el gobierno federal mexicano para atender a esta población. Identificamos varios desafíos y áreas de oportunidad y concluimos con recomendaciones para mejorar el proceso de reintegración. While the dominant narrative suggests that in asymmetric bilateral relations, only big and strong players exert influence over others, this article shows, taking as a case of study the Mexican lobby in the US, that it is also possible that the weaker and smaller players exercise influence on world power

Chronic disease is a significant and costly social problem. The burden is even more pronounced in communities with high rates of a particular chronic disease. Assessment of health belief systems and the local geographies of health beliefs can assist community health planners to create cost-effective strategic intervention programs where populations are at high risk for chronic diseases. In this paper, we elaborate the concept of socio-spatial knowledge networks (SSKNs) and demonstrate that SSKNs can be useful in informing the design of health care prevention strategies. In our project, we demonstrate how to identify key socio-spatial information for intervention strategies which will prevent or delay the onset of a particular chronic disease, Type 2 diabetes. Our qualitative framework allows us to determine which sites might be best characterized as socio-spatial knowledge network nodes for sharing diabetes information and which sites might be less suited to such exchange. Our strategy explores cross-cultural similarities, differences, and overlap in a multi-ethnic rural North Carolina context through simple techniques such as mapping social networks and sites in which people share their knowledge and beliefs about diabetes. This geographical analysis allows us to examine exactly where health knowledge coincides with other social support, and where such resources may be improved in a particular community. Knowing precisely what people in a community understand about a chronic disease and its treatment or prevention and knowing where people go to share that information helps to (1) identify strategic locations within a community for future interventions and, (2) evaluate the effectiveness of existing interventions. The geographical approach presented here is one that can serve other communities and health practitioners who hope to improve chronic disease management in diverse local environments.

La diáspora mexicana,“nuestra frontera viva”, es relevante porque puede, desde el ámbito cultural, fungir como puente entre México y sus países
de acogida, a fin de mostrar una versión más diversa sobre lo que significa ser mexicano en el siglo XXI. Por tanto, el gobierno mexicano debe identificarla, escucharla e incluirla en sus esfuerzos de diplomacia cultural, ayudando en el trayecto a revertir estigmas sobre esta, tanto fuera como dentro del país.

Este libro compila los artículos más destacados escritos por el profesor José Ramón Santillán Buelna, durante los años 2014 a 2018. Los textos nos hacen reflexionar en torno a la imagen país, el poder cultural y la inmigración mexicana en España llegada en la última década. Tres temáticas que están definiendo el estudio de las relaciones México-España en el siglo XXI.
El texto tiene como objetivo de ofrecer una visión alternativa a la idea de país violento y corrupto que campa en los medios de comunicación españoles. El autor, investigador en el Grupo de Estudios Avanzados de la Comunicación de la Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, propone cambiar esta percepción tan negativa aportando información para dimensionar la imagen de México como un país con grandes oportunidades económicas, con un sólido poder cultural y una diáspora cualificada y talentosa.
En este libro el lector podrá conocer desde la perspectiva de un especialista en la inmigración mexicana en España, las imágenes que los medios de comunicación españoles proyectan del país azteca y de su comunidad migrante.

This article—a component of a multimedia series that includes academic papers, video documentaries, painting, poetry, dance, and song—documents and visualizes the continuities and contradictions inherent in diaspora and immigration for Indigenous Mexicans in the U.S. South. We argue for deployment of a decolonial aesthetics that calls into question long-standing colonial systems of
meaning making, particularly racialized representations. We elaborate decolonial aesthetics by drawing on the visual language of Seed Spirits, a video documentary produced in collaboration with Otomi people. Decolonial aesthetics works through an affective register to evoke a wide range of responses to the video including a deeper respect for ontologies of difference. A sacred element of Otomi cosmology, artisanal paper known as papel amate, further illuminates how we understand the liberatory potential of decolonial aesthetics. In conclusion, the Mexican diaspora and the cultural politics of Indigeneity it unleashed are reinscribing the narrative of Indigeneity in the Americas.
