VINST is the outcome of a multidisciplinary pratice-based research project aiming to explore personal cultural borders and digital-human relationships on the edges of Language.

This ongoing research project aims to explore digital-human relationships at the edge of Language. VINST is the end of me as I know myself. It is a mini me and a maxi me existing at the boundary between reality and fantasy: It is two dimensional, sterile and can only be controlled by others but it is also amoral, polyphonic and immune to viruses.

VINST is a unique vocal instrument, part human part virtual - a body without organs consisting of my body image displaying points of sonic sensitivity. The sounds are pre- or non- linguistic, and are based on how the body reacts to touch and how it produces sound. Audiences are invited to construct a non-verbal dialogue with my virtual vocal self.

VINST has been the vehicle for many fruitful collaborations and dialogues with artists, writers, musicians, academics and audiences, around issues of communication and translation across languages and borders in an increasingly global and virtual world.

High capacity of transmission lines (Ethernet in particular) is much higher than what imposed by MIDI today. So it is possible to use capturing interfaces with high-speed and high-resolution, thanks to the OSC protocol, for musical synthesis (either in realtime or non real-time). These new interfaces offer many advantages, not only in the area of musical composition with use of sensors but also in live and interactive performances. In this manner, the processes of calibration and signal processing are delocalized on a personal computer and augments possibilities of processing. In this demo, we present two hardware interfaces developed in La kitchen with corresponding processing to achieve a high-resolution, high-speed sensor processing for musical applications.

Originally composed by Marcello Messina, Ntrallazzu is a cycle of pieces for live score and electronics built on Max, and involving various instrumental line-ups. In particular, Ntrallazzu 4 was performed by Luzilei Aliel on the pifano and electric guitar in Sao Joao del Rei during the VIII UbiMus workshop. Aliel's particular setup also involved a further layer of processing: namely, the usage of Pure Data alongside Ableton Live in order to literally hijack the original piece and open a whole set of unforeseen possibilities that abundantly transcend the original intentions. In this paper, we signify our experience by means of the concept of comprovisation, while we situate Ntrallazzu 4 within the domain of ubiquitous music. Furthermore, we make use of the Heideggerian concept of Gelassenheit and of the Derridean concept of Metaphysics of Presence (as reformulated by Joseph Pugliese) in order to make sense of the piece.
